The eastern U.S. ... isn't it funny how many people give you places that don't fit that description.
My husband and I booked a cabin for a week outside of Gatlinburg, TN. It have everything you could imagine. We had a huge jacuzzi for two, a home theater system, a hot tub on the deck, etc. The mountains are so peaceful and romantic. I mean, what's better than watching the sun set over the mountain ridges as you sit in a bubbling hot tub... or watching the stars twinkle. My husband and I are outdoorsy... so the mountains were perfect. There are so many FREE things to do. We hiked to all the waterfalls and different look out points. The waterfalls were so beautiful... some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. There are tons of shops to see too. We loved it and go back every year.
Oh yeah, if you contact the Gatlinburg site online they will send you all kind of coupons... ones you will actually want to use.

When I book my honeymoon I know where we are going. We're doing a Disney cruise.

A couple days at the parks, a couple days on a cruise. The best of both worlds.

Then again, I'm not much of a beachy person. Can't stand sand.

If you are one of those people I would suggest the gulf coast of Florida. Check out Sanibel Island or Captiva Island. Utterly gorgeous.

I saw a couple suggestions for Hilton Head, SC. My best friend went there for her honeymoon and totally HATED it. She and her husband, who have only been married six months, are now planning a second honeymoon since they both hated Hilton Head so much.

Punta Cana! Cheap, beautiful, awesome foods, sites, sounds, shows! You can do a week for about $1K per person, perhaps less!
You'll need a passport.

OOPS! You said the States - East Coast! I love the Keys, but they are expensive. The outer banks of the Carolina's is beautiful too! Especially Hilton Head.
Nantucket is beautiful in the summer as well as Ocean City, MD.
