If I was banging a bunch of hot chicks all the time I'd think it was the key to heaven, too.

In D&C 132 it talks about plural marriage in the Old Testament and then it says in verse 40 "I am the Lord thy God, and I gave unto thee, my servant Joseph, an appointment, and restore all things. Ask what ye will, and it shall be given unto you according to my word." By this was the practice restored to the earth.

In 1890 the Prophet, Wilfred Woodruff, stated that the practice was to be discontinued. So the main LDS church stopped performing it. Some people broke away over time and established their separate religions. They fail to understand that it can only be permitted under the authority of the living prophet. The principle was always to follow the prophet, whether he says to have one wife or ten, and not about plural marriage being necessary for the celestial kingdom.

Well since King David and King Solomon had many wives, the Mormons men wanted a piece of the action, they claim to be the churhc in the biblical times and since they had many wives back then (tho God never made plural marriage part of the ten commandments) they say therefore, they must do it to, but in order to become a state, they had to quit all that mess. Since they claim to be the religion back in biblical times that was corrupted and is brought back and they believe in temple marriage and all that stuff, that would also be a key to the Celestial Kingdom. Besides, there God Elohim, has many wives.

The tv show Big Love is about a "fundamentalist" Mormon family. The fundamentalists broke from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1890 when President Woodruff received a revelation ending new polygamous relationships.

Fundamentalist Mormon sects (such as the FLDS) believe that men must practice polygamy to reach the highest degree of the Celestial Kingdom.

The Mormons misuse John 10:34, “Ye are gods,” falsely implying that Jesus endorsed godhood for man. This cannot be true for several reasons. It does not fit the context of John 10:24-36, where Jesus shows his equality with the Father and deservedly is called God. In contrast, the judges (so-called gods) in Psalm 82:6 were so called because of their lofty position over the people, but God rebuked then for their sins, and they were proven to be not gods after all but fallen, sinful men.
How this passage is to support the Mormon position is baffling, because Mormons say they are gods in embryo and they have not yet reached godhood

Whatever they wish John 10:34 to say, it does not support their position. The Mormon can only say he hopes to become a god. Psalm 82 and John 10:34 are in the present tense, a distinction apart from their position. In fact, upon a reading of Psalm 82, it is wonder that Mormons would want to identify with the psalm at all. It says nothing good about these men. But if that is the position they desire, only the judgment of God follows.
Furthermore, the Mormon should be made aware that LDS Apostle James Talmage correctly identified the “gods” of psalm 82 and john 10:34 when he wrote, “Divinely appointed judges Called ‘gods.’ In Psalm 82:6, judges invested by divine appointment are called ‘gods.’ To this Scripture the Savior referred in His reply to the Jews in Solomon’s Porch. Judges so authorized officiated as the representatives of God and are honored by the exalted title ‘god.’” (Jesus the Christ, 501).

When a person dies, all his earthly doings are no longer relevant. Whether he has 4 wives or otherwise. The marriage the Bible always talks about is the marriage with JC. But this is not the kind of marriage we know in this world. This marriage is about our love for God the Holy Trinity and again the love is not the fleshly love. We have to be careful not to humanize God.

It has nothing to do with going to heaven. At one time in the early days of the LDS church it was practiced among some of the members because God commanded them to. It is no longer practiced and hasn't been for over 100 years. If you couldn't get into heaven by not being a polygamist, then almost everyone that has ever joined the church would not be going to heaven.

Polygamy has nothing to do with heaven and everything to do with survival. When the (what would be) LDS folks went west, that area was a very dangerous place. This meant that many men were killed. Remember, in that time, a woman's place was in the home, the men were out hunting. This meant that many women were widowed and needed a man to hunt for them. That's where polygamy came in.

Plural marriage was recognized as legitimate by God in the past. (See the Bible). Therefore, I have no doubt that it will exist in the next life.

However, it is not the key to the celestial kingdom according to LDS doctrine.

Brother Aloha Spirit has forgotten that Brigham Young was not a fundamentalist Mormon and he had over 50 wives.

The fundamentalist LDS (not to be confused with the mainstream LDS church) are complete wackos. It does not say anywhere in the bible, or even the book of mormon, for that matter, that polygamy is the key to heaven
