A well bred, well socialized, well trained Dane is very gentle, very loving, very sweet...however an ill bred, unsocialized, untrained Dane can be an absolute nightmare.
A badly bred Dane can have serious temperament issues..so if you are considering a Dane get one from a responsible breeder or a rescue with a good reputation..beware of BYB/Mill bred Danes. Do not buy from the newspaper, swap/trade magazines, etc.. choose your breeder very, very carefully.
Danes usually get along very well with other dogs, cats, etc.

When they first came to the US about a hundred years ago - or so - they were pretty fierce.
Now, however, Great Danes are the true meaning of the term "Gentle Giant."
They're wonderful dogs. Good natured, sweet, good with kids (even most abused rescue Danes are good with kids), happy and - well, just wonderful.
My dad used to collect Danes - until his health gave out - he's had as many as 5 in the house at one time.
I love them.

I used to horseback ride for a Great Dane breeder. Believe it or not but they make excellent house dogs. They are very sweet with children and make very good companion animals. Like another answer said, they can be hyper as puppies but so are most puppies, they become fully relaxed and docile when they are about two years old. They have a short life span but the time you have with them will be so wonderful. But be warned they are a big dog which equals big dog food bills and "messes" to clean up.

Great Danes are the coolest most relaxed dogs you'll ever meet. When they are young they can be alittle hyper, but once they get to be older they are very docile.

they are gentle giants. I've never heard a single bad thing about a great dane before. They are usually great with kids because of their gentle nature

Great Danes are sweet sensitive dogs, unless you do something to threaten them.(take this from a true dog expert.)

Chewing, Chewing and did I mention the Chewing ?!?!?! at 10 months old, my little man comes out of his crate with his mouth open, looking for the first thing he can get his mouth around. the light of my life. A little hard-headed at times, but the best kind of dog to own, hands down.
