There is no "quick fix" for this problem. It sounds like your dog was never trained or taught any manners. It is your responsibility to train your dog properly. She can not just be expected to behave without you showing her how!
First of all it sounds like she is really bored during the day while you are gone. She needs toys, chews etc to keep her busy while you are gone. If she doesn't have something of her own to chew on she will go for whatever is laying around. Also, you should think about containing her in an area where she can't get into the garbage etc. Try putting her in the bathroom, laundry room, kitchen etc while you are gone. Provide her with a nice place to lay down, some toys and treats and you'll be amazed. Or better yet, think about crate training her!
You need to be responsbile for picking up anything that could hurt her if injested.
Also, consult with a trainer, they will be able to help you teach your dog some basic manners.

She is bored and lonely and finding ways to entertain herself. Dogs don't have hands, so they use their mouths for everything. You need to restrict her activities while you're gone to a "dog proof" area. Just as you would "child proof" your home for children you need to do the same for your dog. You can use baby gates to close off different rooms where your dog can stay and play safely, and just put anything that you don't want her to chew out of her reach. Give her things that she can chew on, such as doggie toys or bones so she'll have some constructive way to entertain herself and work off her energy. It might help, too, if you take her for a good long walk before you leave her. A tired dog doesn't have the energy to get in trouble. Good luck with her.

Sounds like she's having seperation anxiety... Dogs like to be around people and be social so to be left alone makes dogs anxious and they do all sorts of evil things... For starters, maybe it's not a good idea to let her roam freely while no one is home.. Dogs like crates, they make them feel safe, and secure...They also, keep them out of harms way... If you feel badly about using a crate maybe keep her somewhere enclosed a bathroom or gated in the kitchen just make sure there's nothing to tear up... Or if you can afford it have someone come and look after your pet while you are away at work.. It wouldn't have to be full time, but maybe at lunch for an hour... The main thing is keepin your dog safe while you are away.. We have a dog and most of the time we're home. However, at night she sleeps in her crate and when we aren't home. If we are gone overnight I usually have someone let her out and stay with her... It just depends on the situation.. I do recommend crating....

Sounds like your dog is bored and lonely and just wants some attention. She's still young so she is full of energy to destroy whatever is in sight. I have a chihuahua and a mini dobbie and they are 4 and 7 now but my chihuahua went through that same stage but he did it with my shoes....the expensive ones...Yes, I was mad but they are not the ones to blame because you are their owner and it's up to you to fix it...I got my dog a gate and isolated him in one room with lots of toys and when I got home from work went out for a walk and gave him a lot of TLC. Good Luck!

Try to keep the chewable things out of reach. Give her some bones that she likes and some toys she can chew to occupy her and to get her mind off the bad things she is chewing. Also play with her more with her toys and teach her that she can chew her toys and bones but not your garbage, baskets, magazines, etc. good luck!!! =]

Crate train her so that she's not able to get at things like this.
Honestly, it drives me nuts when owners get a dog and are all confused when the dog acts out like this. Maybe not giving her the opportunity to do things like this.

crate the dog up... Until the dog is 2 yrs. old, they aren't "adults"... She is going through her... I'm a bored teenager, and you left me here....
So, crate the dog up while you are gone and can't keep an eye on her. Eventually as she gets older, you can let her out for an hour at a time (while you are gone) and work up to it being longer...
Besides, the crate is as much to protect her as to help you!
Good luck.

Get a crate/kennel to keep her in when you are gone. It sounds like she has anxiety issues about being left. There are many homeopathic remedies that can help to calm her or you could get your vet to give you something. I would try the kennel first. Then if you need more do the med stuff.

Stop giving her the run of the house and confine her to the kitchen with a gate.
