I love rice crispy treats but when they cool they get really hard. I follow the recipe on the cereal box so I'm not sure whats going on. Anybody know what I can do to help my treats from turning into bricks?

Don't use margarine, they make them hard. My mother in law adds peanut butter to keep them soft, and it adds a great taste!! Also use everything fresh. Good luck

I make Scotcharoos instead of the traditional treat, so I'm trying to remember the recipe. If it calls for butter, are you using actual butter??? Plus it help is your cereal is freshly opened. NO matter what everyone says you need to follow the recipe exactly. Make sure you're using the one on the box.

Scotcharoos

1 Cup of White Sugar
1 Cup of Light Corn Syrup (Karo)
1 1/2 Cups of peanut Butter
6 cups of Rice Crispies

1/2 bag of semi sweet chocolate chips
1/2 bag of butterscotch chips

Bring the first two ingredients to a gentle boil in a large sauce pan. When they are gently boiling stir in the peanut butter until smooth. Remove from heat. Add in the 6 cups of Rice Crispies, mix well. Put into a 9x13 pan. Let cool.
Put the chips in a smaller sauce pan and melt together over LOW heat. When mixed together and melted, pour over the bars. Let the frosting harden, cut and serve.

These are the best rice crispie bars you'll ever have.

Wrap them in plastic wrap and leave them in a warm room, or before you eat one microwave one for about 5 seconds.

just cut and wrap as soon as you can.. and if it does go hard throw it in the microwave for 25-30 seconds i am sure that will soften it up for you.
