I live in Ohio, and there is a law that if youre 16,
youre not allowed to have more than one other person
in the car with you while driving.

My boyfriend, my friend, Sarah, her boyfriend, Tom, and I
are going on a roadtrip sometime soon,
and we're gonna be taking the Ohio turnpike.

Do you think the people at the Ohio turnpike
will ask to see my license or something (since I'm only 16)
and then call the cops and bust us?

I don't want to hear about how I shouldnt do it
because I don't care to hear it,
so youre wasting your time.

I just want to know what you think would happen.

There's a very good chance you're going to be stopped. Obviously, that law was placed into effect for a specific reason.

I was a police detective and commander in Ohio for 20 years. First of all, the law says PROBATIONARY driver license holders under the age of 17 will not be permitted to operate a motor vehicle with more than one person who is not a family member in the vehicle, unless accompanied by the license holder’s parent, guardian, or legal custodian.

This applies only if you have your temporary permit, not a regular drivers license. If you have received your permanent license, this law does not apply to you. If you still have your temps, I am surprised your parents would allow you a car and a trip on your own.

However, as I live in Ohio, to be honest nobody at the tolls is going to ask you for your license. Other than the state troopers there who dont actually man the booths, It isnt the booth operators job or authority to try and detemine the validity of a license or the age of drivers unless they are obviously underage. I seriously doubt you would have any issues on the turnpike. Now, if you only have your temps and you get pulled over for some reason, well then you will have an issue.

Nah-If random people ask to see your license - tell them that they are a wierdo & to bug off -they have no right to see your license.
I don't think they'd call the cops on you -that is very rare. If you guys are hanging out the doors and causing a scene they might, but just for driving around-No.
My brothers & sisters are 15 & 17-They drive better than I do. They drive all the time. The only way you will get caught is if a cop actually sees you-he may pull you over. But- hey the chances are slim & just the idea of getting in trouble makes it more fun!
Remember to drive safely, you will be responsible for the others if anything happens.

Depending on how old you look. If you are like me and are 16, but look like you're twelve, there is a very good chance they will pull you over. If you look old, I doubt it. Also, the color of your car makes a difference too. Yellow, red, orange, and other bright colors like light blue draw much more attention to cops. Black, white, and especially grey blend in more. The car that blends in the most is a 4-door sedan. Sports cars stand out and SUV's. If your parent is in the car with you, the rule does not apply. According to the number of people going, it sounds like you will be driving a van or a large SUV. Newer, more stylish cars stand out more than older, boring looking cars. And the last thing you want to do is stand out.

The Ohio Turnpike is crawling with troopers who will stop you for any little reason. And, appearing young with that many people in the car is a reason. The trouble you can get in is not worth it. Let someone who is older and allowed to drive take on the responsibility.

I would like to think so.

The law is intended to save lives because young people are statistically horrible drivers, ESPECIALLY with others in the car. And here go four of you in knowing and obvious violation of the law. I would rather see you caught, busted and sent home with your car towed than think you will contribute to the statistics.

I doubt the toll booth attendant would call the police; however, if you look 16 and you go by a cop and he thinks you look 16, that would be probable cause to stop you.

The laws are there to protect people not old enough from doing what you are going to do. And to protect other people from you. You should reconsider your trip options.
