More likely it is being addicted to using food for non-food purposes. For example, being depressed = eat.
Celebration = eat
Lonely = eat
Happy = eat
and so on. Food is intended for FUELING the body, that is all.

I truly think you can be addicted to food. I actually think my Mom is.
She really likes to eat and sometimes she eats even when she isn't hungry. She is not depressed, bored, or anything like that either.
One day when she was visiting, we had a BIG lunch and about 2:00 she mentioned she was still full from lunch. She then proceeded to go to my fridge and start eating the spinach dip I had in there because she really likes it. I made her stop because we were going to order pizza early evening.
She also can't stand to see food on someones plate at the end of the meal and will "help" you finish it.
I call that an addiction!!

yes, an insulin spike cause by consuming too many carbs in one shot increases seratonin levels in the brain, the feel good chemical that Prozac stimulates. That's why after huge meals people feel relaxed and want to sleep. So eating can become addictive when people are stressed or depressed constantly, they'll start eating tons of carb loaded foods to get the serotonin release in the brain.

the truth is that when you eat your brain releases feel good chemicals called endorphins. people who tend to get addicted to food ussually have low self esteem as well as other issues that lead them to become depressed often. they notice that food makes them feel better so they continue to eat and eat in order to make themselves feel the best they can.
