What is the best type of HDTV for watching sports?

I mostly watch basketball and football. Which type is the best i.e. plasma, LCD or DLP? Also, is 1080p worth spending the extra money?

I watch sports on a 42" Panasonic Plasma with 720p and I love the picture quality. As for 1080p, well broadcast tv only goes up to 1080i max so the choice is up to you.

Definitely Panasonic LCD. I have a 42" and it's the bomb.
