I have been reading about the faith and was curious if anyone on here actually followed it or if anyone had suggestions as to what books to read about it.

I believe in the Gnosticism, yes. I also believe in deism and spiritualism.

First you need to check out:

Then read about the Nag Hammadi discoveries and learn about the true message of Jesus.

The gnostic heresy was exterminated by Catholic Orthodoxy. Most of what we know about the gnostics are the published attacks by their enemies, so read them with a grain of salt. The Nag Hammadi gnostic works are largely without context. One can guess at their application, but there is no continuity of tradition to situate them.

There are some protestant sects that emphasize one's personal relationship with the divine without doctrinal conformity. Find an unprogrammed meeting of the Society of Friends (Quakers). They're rather neo-gnostic in outlook.

Reading the Gnostic gospels themselves, with commentary, according to your tastes in reading is the best bet. It's what I used to get the pro-Gnosticism view. I'm sure you already understand the critical views of it via other religions.

I read a little about it a few years ago, though I don't remember which resources I used. I tend to prefer modern commentaries on ancient religious writings to the writings themselves, though, since a lot of ancient writings (Gnostic stuff *especially*) tend to be somewhat obtuse, and you don't get any of the context just from reading the primary sources.

Same goes for the Bible.
