I am currently 140 lbs. 5'4" (so if anyone is similar to me please answer) and I need to lose 20 pounds. I am currently doing a diet of less than 1000 calories a day and Next week I willbe signing up with a boxing/kickboxing gym and will be going 5-6x per week. Is this a good way to lose the weight? Has anyone used any of these methods to lose weight and how long did it take you. Do you have any recommendatins that would help me boost my weight loss?

Hey! I'm 5'2" and I weigh 140 lbs. Now, before you get all excited and think that I need to loose tons of weight, give me a sec. When most people see me they think I weigh about 115-120. I have a very athletic build and am quite muscular (I wear a size 6). I eat a very healthy, balanced diet.
Having said that, I don't advise that you concentrate on losing a particular amount of weight. I would concentrate on getting fit - slimming down, toning up. Go by how your clothes fit (or how they no longer fit!) as opposed to going by what the scale says.
1000 calories might not be enough. Just b/c you are at a certain calorie threshold does not mean that it's good for you. The more fuel you give your body, the more it has the opportunity to burn. This is especially important if you are taking on a high-energy workout such as kickboxing. You need more calories than that if you will be doing that 5-6 times per week! Trust me on this one. I take kickboxing twice per week for an hour each session and I feel extremely glad that I had a lot of good food to eat earlier in the day.
I wish you luck...you might want to speak to someone at the gym for advice on your diet and caloric intake.

getting below 1200cal a day is not conducive to losing weight. instead your body will go into starvation mode where it stores more food calories the necessary as fat and it won't burn fat as easily as it does out of starvation mode. boxing and kickboxing are really good workouts so that will definitely help. make sure you always leave yourself at least one day of rest a week. you should be losing weight at the rate of 1-2lbs a week. its better to lose it slowly because it allows your mind and your body to adjust to your new active lifestyle. when people try to lose too much weight too quickly it often backfires and they do something crazy like binge eat or something like that and totally ruin all their efforts. also by going it slow you have less risk of pushing yourself too hard which will injure you and set you back because you'll be unable to do your routine while you heal.

To successfully lose weight, you must carry out
a plan to balance your caloric intake with exercise.
Ideally, dieting should be done by eating a nutritionally
balanced, low-calorie diet and increasing physical activity.
