well this is my 2nd question, same subject.. its about the fan noise again but I asked a few friends, and they said, that the fan is a belt driven fan, and that it is suppose to sound like that, which I dont believe because its such a Roar in the engine, sounds like im just reving it up, he said i'd have to replace it with an electric fan? anything to get rid of that horrid noise, any ideas?

If it is a belt driven fan, then it has a clutch on it to allow it to not spin in some conditions, like when you are going down the interstate. If that clutch is seizing, it wont disengage at the right time and could make a lot of noise.

Your issue, as others have said, is that silicone based clutch fan to which the actual fan blade is bolted. They tend to seize up, and then cause the fan to turn all the time, no matter how fast you are driving. They are intended to allow the fan to 'free wheel' when you are moving at about 20MPH or faster, since air movement will then cool the radiator without fan assistance. The replacement units are about $70, and even a clumsy backyard mechanic should be able to switch them out within an hour...maybe longer if you have a few beers !

I had that exact issue with my 99 limited Grand as well. Turns out my clutch fan was going out. First I tried a flex lite fan, ran too hot. I tried an electric fan as well, check engine light would not turn off. Your best bet would be just replacing it with the stock fan. $50-75 at your local salvage yards.

i agree look into getting the clutch replaced electric would require the sensors and switches too not worth the hassle besides its gone till now without a problem i doubt yu will have it longer than 8 more years
