There is this very friendly cat that hangs out were I live( I live in a condo). I have always thought that when a cat is mad, they will hiss. have 5 indoor cats and none of them will hiss unless they are mad or scared. This cat outside will hiss just to be hissing. I will pet him and then walk off he will follow me and I can hear him hiss. Do any of your wonderful people out there know why this cat does this. He is a friendly loving cat so I know he is not mad?????????????????

Maybe his little voice box is damaged and that is the sound he makes instead of meowing.

Maybe the cat is mad that you are trying to walk away from him without petting him? Who knows maybe he just likes to hear himself hiss.

He is confused.. most unowned outside cats don't know how to act when they interact w/humans. He could smell the other cats that you have on you. Or he wants to go w/u but is uneasy w/what to do.. so as long as he isn't swatting at you when you come close he isn't afraid. So.. he may just want to be your next pet

prob never had any love and been kicked about so only ever hissed at humans. you give him attention he likes and the only reaction he knows is a hiss....
just a thought...

Maybe that is just his form of communicating? I don't know about that cat, but my dog growls all the time. He comes up to me growling and puts his head over to me and gets me to pet him and he growls the whole time. He pretty much growls all the time no matter what so I just assume thats the way he talks.
