Do a trial-run (or several if you haven't decided for sure where you are going) before the wedding. Depending on where you're going, they may be willing to use your make-up. I had it done by a professional for my wedding and for my husband's daughter's wedding. My wedding make-up was done with their colors, and my husband's daughter's wedding make-up was some his, some mine (but then, I use Mac make-up, which is a professional make-up).

I had a couple of friends help me with make-up, but it was basically the same as I usually wear - and I don't wear lots of make-up. If I was going to have it done professionally, I would go down there some time before the wedding and have them do it just to see if I like it. I wouldn't be experimenting ON the day of the wedding.

I went to Macy's and had mine done at the Benefit counter. I love their make-up, but I knew that for photo's I needed something more than the little bit I usually use. I just made sure to tell them that I didn't want full on foundation (I have freckles & it just looks weird with foundation), and the general style I was going for. I went for a trial before hand, so my makeup looked great for my shower as well, and I was happy, so I went back. I should also mention that I didn't look like a clown, and wasn't over done. My husband loved the look because it was still me.
Glamour Shots uses a LOT of make-up (I had it done once). You can have a professional do what you want. Also, if you really want some of your makeup used, I'm sure a hired professional will do it for you.
Good luck & congratulations!

I would definitely suggest a professional for wedding make-up. Glamor Shots are done with heavy make-up because that is what most talent agencies use - your wedding is a completely different affair. I would highly recommend finding a professional who is willing to do numerous trials - in case you change your mind before the big day. Look for someone who is willing to work with you on color, style, etc. They should all come prepared with their own supplies, but I actually like my make-up a lot and have contacts who will use the client's make-up if she chooses that option. It shouldn't cost any more for them to use your colors, etc.

I had my make-up done at Origins. I hand my maid of honor come with me for a trial run, and she wrote down all the colors and products that we used so that on the day of the wedding, even if it was a different girl, we knew what to do. They used their products, but the day of the wedding I brought my own waterproof eyeliner and mascara because I knew I would cry and I didn't want my eye make-up to run. I also had bought a long-lasting lip color. They completely understood and used those products while doing my make-up. Also, I did not have to pay to have my make up done; however, I usually buy a product.
Origins is a fairly natural line of products. They don't tend to have outrageous colors, and their make-up has a natural look to it. I love their products. Where, I live their counter is in a department store, but I have seen malls where they have their own store.
Also, for wedding day make-up you should look like you only better. If you tend to be a natural girl, then stick with natural make-up colors just pumped up a bit :)

Neither. I don't normally wear makeup, but I do know how to do it effectively. So I did my own, but it wasn't my normal makeup since, as I said, I don't normally wear any.
If you want to have it done professionally, have at least one trial run before the wedding so you can discuss any concerns you have about the results. A professional should be able to do makeup that will look great on camera but still make you feel like you.
And if you find the makeup artist doesn't listen to you or only does things one way that you don't care for, go find another makeup artist. You want to look like you at your best in your wedding album, not like a stranger.

I'm not very good at make-up so I'm having mine professionally done. Schedule a trial (most make-up artists will do this for you) where you can talk about what you want and what you normally do and she can even make you up just so you know exactly what will go on on your wedding day.

For my wedding I hired a MAC makeup artist. We went through 3 run throughs before the big day. What was nice about going to a professional was she was able to asset my tastes and what I wanted. On the big day she used some of her makeup and some of my makeup. Mostly she made me look great but nothing to over bored. Remember that on you big day you want to look great and have you pictures turn out good. You also want to look a little bit better than you would just everyday. I suggest going with your gut and having those who know you come along to help, because they would want you to look you best.

I made a point to wear my usual makeup, and keep my hair the way I usually wear it. I wanted to look like me. I did use a little more makeup than usual, what I'd wear for a night out.
When I'm going out, I fluff my hair with rollers and wear a little more makeup. When I'm home around the house, I wear very light makeup and put my hair up. So for me, putting my hair UP is my "housework" look, so I didn't want it up, I wanted it long and wavy.
As for professionals, they'd bring their own stuff, right? Which I think is kind of gross if they're dipping brushes into the eyeshadows and stuff, then using them on all kinds of people. It seems really germy to use the same makeup on so many people, even if they do happen to clean their brushes after each client (though I doubt they do)

Your make-up artist is your employee so you can tell them whatever colors you want them to use. I would let them use their own products since they are probably of a higher quality, longer lasting, and they are used to working with them.
On my wedding day my makeup will be heavier than usual both because I want it to last all day and because you should always have a little more makeup on when you are taking pics or it will look washed out or like you don't have any at all.
