I see that part of my answer has already been given. They see it as a slippery slope. If you allow Gays to marry, then soon it will be multiple people, then soon it will include animals as well.
Well, that is just nonsense to me because, as you say, animals don't have the free will to choose.
If you use that slippery slope argument then you have to do away with straight/heterosexual marriage as well, since it is the very beginning of that slippery slope. So that argument just doesn't work here.
This is a religious situation pressured onto the government. Personally, I see nothing wrong with Gay marriage, I'm all for it and I don't see what the big deal is. It is no threat to me and I can't for the life of me see how it would affect heterosexual marriage. I also don't see anything wrong with multiple persons marrying each other, as long as all are consenting adults, I don't believe that our government should have the right to say who can and cannot marry or form a family.

I think people bring up "marrying a sheep" to highlight that this is not the natural order of affairs in the world. They are focusing on the way the bodies are designed and what appears to be the natural purpose for that design.
The only threat that gay people present to our world is a moral threat, so yes, the Bible applies. Since God says some things are okay and some things are not, it's difficult for those of us who believe God and have some understanding of his holiness to just ignore "choices" that affect us all morally. God has destroyed whole communities out of disgust for their lack of following him. Morality matters to God.
Obviously things become especially difficult when some people in a society believe God and others want to take their chances. In our society, Christians, just like everyone else, have the right to express their beliefs and opinions and to use those in establishing laws in their communities if they can get enough support. So they can oppose gay marriage because they believe that God opposes gay marriage. If enough of our society becomes in favor of gay marriage, Christians will not be able to legally do anything about it.

A sheep does have free will...
Marriage is a religious ideal, so if they want to regurgitate verses...there isn't a problem.
Homosexuality threatens humanity, if everyone was gay the human race would die.
I don't have a problem with homosexuals... I'm just stating the facts.

i believe everyone deserves a fair and free live and to find their happyness once it is not harming anyone else. eg. Stealing goats makes you happy however its someones goat and it affects them. Is gay marrage hurting others in this way?
Its a problem of perspective. No insult intended but being gay just doesn't seem natural and i view it as a learnt condition during your wonder years, nuff said.
If it is indeed a learnt condition then displaying it openly might cause my kids to learn this behavior or at least see it as an alternative or normal.... I dont see it as normal as it can't be sustained ie. if everyone in the world became gay then we would soon become extinct. (no reproduction)
You are probably angry at what i am saying now but i ask you suppose i wanted to eat feaces. I pushed the fact that it is contains very good nutrients and fibre. My life right? then lets push it, I want to eat feaces when i visit your home and at public resturaunts, and i want to teach this to kids and finally your kids are warming up to the idea? can you see the parralells in the reasoning?

Why bringing up 'sheep' and other nonsense? One reason, and probably THE reason, is that, when some people lack logical responses to such a matter as gay marriage, which, on the face of it, is a benefit to society, they introduce absurdities such as, "Next they'll be wanting to marry sheep," etc. I hesitate to say it, but it comes of a brain that wants more time with books and logic and reasoning.

I'm a Christian and hope you can get married
You see when you get that ability you will see how gay
you really are...
Gay liberties have made it seem so gret to be gay, many
can bounce from one relationship to another without having
to pay allamony or child support ( i pay for a child I raised
from birth not my own)
gay marriage has nothing to do wit sheep, it's just that "so
called straight men" are so afraid they too could be found out
to be the same (gay)

People also tend to forget that, from a legal standpoint, there can be a compelling state interest to prohibit the items usually brought up as a slippery slope by opponents of gay marriage. There are reasons to prohibit bestiality and incest for the good of a population.
There are no reasons to prohibit homosexuality. If I want to marry or have sex with a girl, it doesn't hurt *anybody*.
This was actually the logic used by former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor in her write-up of Lawrence v. Texas.

Thank you for a beautiful and well thought out question. Far from being a threat to the world, gay people contribute economically, artistically, constructively as much as non gay people do, but they do not need to justify their existence; they just are, and are trying to be, just like everyone else. I think many of them also contribute to the very small store of kindness available in the world today.

Bigotry doesn't resort to reaons. It resorts to ridiculous analgies.
The only logical reaon that these fundamentalists take such an interest in something that does not affect them in any way and happens behind closed doors is that they have strong homsexual tendencies themselves and are both frightened of them and trying to suppress them.

with marriage come certain legal obligations , at least in my country. that is why you can not marry a sheep but can marry a same gendered person. there is a difference you can probably not marry in church, but there is no reason why you can not marry in court gay or not it doesnt matter.
