Lemme ask you something... WHY do you think N. Korea has been fighting so hard to develop nuclear weapons?
Because they know that NONE of their conventional forces have ANY chance!
It doesn't matter how many people they have, their tanks can't get to us, their planes wouldn't last 5 minutes, their artillery would be destroyed before they were even able to make any kind of impact.
The N. Korean military is so pathetic, it's ridiculous!

we would suffer losses probably major losses in the beginning that is a given. the forces on the Korean peninsula are not meant to stop a invasion on a large scale, only to act as a deterrent, and in the case of full scale war to try and slow down the north Korean army.
after the opening phases and we are able to mobilize and reinforce the enemy would be beaten back, and hopefully destroyed this time.
that is of course on the assumption that only north and south Korea, and the USA are involved. if any one decides to side with north Korea then it will be a different story possible. however it is a hypothetical so who knows.
in any case war is a bad thing, no real soldier wants it they fight because it is their duty.

Theyd be screwed out of their minds. If NK decided to wage war with us most likely Russia would give in and support the side of the US and Japan. North Korea's "Nuke" has not been fired successfully and they really only have short range missiles. The US however has enough ICBMs to make the air above north Korea rain uranium. If they tried to deploy some sort of long range missile itd be shot down WAY before it even got to the pacific coast.

Bad, very bad, when I was stationed in Korea we did 'alerts' at God awful times in the morning, where we would hear a siren and have to get dressed and grab our gear and be ready to roll out of the camp within 12 min's the entire camp would be deserted, and we would be deployed to our positions. Not easy, bally even possible. The best time our camp had in my year in Korea was 13.52.
My camp was 2nd on the list of targets that N. Korea's artillery is already pointed at, Seoul being 1st. This is not even considering nukes into the equation.
We also do warfighting exercises where threw computers we simulate N Korea's attacks and try to defend them, if N korea attacked with all they have, that we know of, they could over run S. Korea within 36 hours, then shoot ammunition's at Japan, and other tactical targets in the area.
Short answer, BAD, very very BAD!

Very, very bad. N. Korea has a million-man army.
Although they wouldn't have the resources to sustain a long term engagement (that's a very expensive proposition, as you can see from Iraq), they wouldn't have to. N. Korea outnumbers us to such an extreme that they'd wipe us off the continent before we could react.
Our only hope would be to go nuclear, and even then we'd probably lose almost all of our forces in Korea before we stopped them.
That's why NOBODY wants a war with N. Korea.
