What's a healthier lunch? 6" Subway Sub or Tuna/Pasta salad?

Pasta salads are full of carbs and fat, while the 6" sub is pretty easy on you... unless you get the 6" tuna sub, then you're just drinking half a jar of mayo. I suggest the ham or turkey sandwich if you're serious about losing weight... tuna sandwiches there are 3 parts mayo, 1 part tuna.

It depends where you get it really. Most places will LOAD their tuna and pasta salads down with excessive amounts of mayonnaise. I know that at the pizza place I used to work at, a tuna salad wasn't really all that good for you. The pasta salad is going to be loaded with carbs (from the pasta) and the fat (from the mayo). I would probably actually go with the subway sub.

Healthy Tuna Macaroni Salad

Hey there, the 6" sub depending on what you get in it is definately healthier. Pasta has a lot of fat and carbs....plus, whenever I have pasta for lunch, I usually feel miserable throughout the day...I consider pasta more of an evening meal. =)

Depends on what you get at Subway. If you get the "BMT", then it's the tuna/pastta. If you get a grilled cihcken w/ no cheese and lowfat dressing at Subway, then that is healthier.

Well, provided you make a healthy choice at Subway like turkey, ham, or grilled chicken, SKIP the cheese offer, add plenty of veggies like tomato, onion, lettuce, cucumbers, peppers, and opt for mustard or (very little) olive oil and vinegar as your dressing instead of mayo then you are good.

If you are looking at tuna/pasta salad with mayo, then forget the healthy thought as it is usually high in fat.

Why not try these options if time/setting permits (the first one is delicious):

Tuna Salad

1 1/4 cups whole wheat farfalle,
1 tbs good olive oil
1 can tuna (9 oz)
1 can Cannellini beans, 15oz (450gr)
1/2 cup green olives
1 cup cherry tomatoes
1/2 green pepper
2 - 3 stalks sliced celery
1 tbs fresh snipped tarragon
1 tbs fresh snipped chives
Creamy Dressing

Cook pasta according to package directions. When done, drain, put in a large bowl and toss with 1 tbs olive oil. Open, drain and rinse beans. Open and drain tuna. (if your tuna is packed in good olive oil you can reserve it and use it in the dressing.) Cut cherry tomatoes and olives in half. Slice celery - diagonally is nice. Slice pepper into matchsticks. Snip herbs. Make dressing and add to the pasta, tossing gently to coat. Break up tuna and add to pasta, toss to combine. Add tomatoes, peppers, celery, olives, beans and herbs and toss lightly.

Creamy Herb Dressing

1/2 cup plain yogurt
1 tbs Dijon mustard
1 tbs lemon juice
1 tbs fresh snipped chives
1 tbs fresh snipped tarragon
3 tbs olive oil - the good stuff

Snip tarragon and chives with scissors. In small bowl whisk yogurt, mustard and lemon juice. Add oil, a bit at a time and whisk well. Add herbs.

OR

Whole Wheat Pasta Salad (just add a can of flaked, drained water packed tuna)

1 c. whole wheat shell pasta or other small shape
1/2 c. finely chopped parsley
1/4 c. chopped green onion
1 lg. tomato, peeled, seeded and diced
1/4 c. diced green pepper
1/4 c. each lemon juice and olive oil
1 tsp. salt or to taste
1/4 to 1/2 tsp. black pepper

1. Cook pasta in boiling salted water about 5 to 8 minutes. Drain and rinse under cold water. Drain thoroughly.
2. Turn pasta into large bowl. Stir in parsley, green onions, tomato and green pepper.
3. In separate bowl, mix lemon juice, oil salt and black pepper. Pour over pasta mixture, mixing well. Cover and chill.
4. To serve, garnish with lettuce leaves and tomato wedges or lemon and lime slices if desired.

Serves 4.

Anyway, hope I helped....Enjoy!

sub. The thing that kills the tuna salad... is the mayo. But they're both pretty good.

a sub is more balanced, theoretically, too.

depends what other toppings/ingredients you get.

in the sub, if you get mayo or another sauce, of course the calories is going to go up.

in the salad, depends on the dressing or vinegrette.
