I am reading previous questions and I am finding that SOME people who don't believe in God act as if they are better or pointing out imperfections of Christians like "many gang members are Christians" Can you really base ALL Christians in that catagory.....Can you base ALL Christians to be good? Can you really base Most Atheists to be better people? (like some have said) Can you base ALL to be bad? I have seen some Atheists to be more cocky, so to speak, about answer questions. I also find that some Christians are a little cocky. One group can't say they are better than the other because news flash neither of the groups are acting better! I am a Christian and I don't think Atheists are worse than Christians because I see us as people being individuals and believing what we want. Isn't that enough? fearing God is not the only reason most Christians do good it is in Human nature. Christians and Atheists do good for the well being of our communities Christians also do it for God.

well said, honey - i understand what your saying and i think you are a precious person for trying to comfort athiests - i agree Christians are'nt better than anybody else - We have just decided to accept the GRACE unbelievable grace that God has offered us (Ephesians 2:8) We havent done anything to deserve being free -
i think Christians get so excited to offer to others this free gift that we some how come off as offensive - every one has a choice - But when your a child of the darkness you can't see the light that's why our prayers are so important.
God bless you and keep being a light for Jesus !

I believe everyone should have the right to believe as they want. I have views on religion and the reasoning behind it, and i often discuss this topic with my friends who are open minded (i am an atheist, they being christian). I don't believe choice of religion by itself makes any difference on a persons personality. Either being cocky, pointing out others perfections, etc. The only time i have a problem with religion or religious people is when their religion blinds them to any discussion that in any way contradicts their beliefs. The reason we discover new ideas is because someone thought outside the box, and in that respect i think religion is very limiting to some types of progress, either socially or technically by individuals whom allow it to.

When you're discussing issues about important current event topics, and someone quotes the bible as reasoning, it makes them appear unintelligent and unable to form a coherent argument, in my opinion. Its like someone arguing that we can no longer experiment on butterflies because they contain the spirits of the dead. Sound silly? That's because you are Christian, and not Buddhist. Religion, or anything about which you cannot base upon fact simply shouldn't be the basis of an argument with people from many different backgrounds and beliefs. If you're in church, argue the bible as basis till you're blue in the face with a similar audience. Elsewhere you should stick to the facts, and if other people want to do something that your religion prohibits, let them. Their enjoyment isn't detrimental to you in any way shape or form.

As far as people and their behavior, it is a question of morality. Some Christians follow the moral standards set forth in the bible/10 commandments well (and i agree they are a good moral compass, although shouldn't even have to be stated). Some of them "sin" daily and pray for forgiveness nightly. The same can be said of anyone and their relation to their moral compass regardless of religion. Some people do what they know is wrong regardless of their ideas of right and wrong, and some follow their morals to the letter, even though some things that they do and consider OK others wouldn't.

I'm not sure I really understand a 'question', but as far as lumping Christians generally.

We all have different minds and personalities. However, we are linked by one God. We are saved. What we choose to do with our minds and personalities isn't necessarily of God. That does nothing to change our status with our Father however, but it doesn't do anything to help Him either. Infact, there are some Christians that do more to hinder others walks with the Lord than atheists.

I am an atheist, but I don't count myself as "better". I just think that I am able to open up and learn about other religions more. I don't believe I know the truth, but I know that certain things are not possible.

Atheists are independent. The only thing many of us have in common with each other is our disbelief in God. Other than that, our opinions and behaviors are not uniform.

Christians however, all take their lead from the same source, and therefore tend to be more alike than not.

Yeah - but I've seen Christians like that, too. I think the basic problem is that everyone thinks they're right, and just can't stand for someone else to have another opinion. I think that's what starts most "holy wars".

Just speak your peace and let idiotic people make idiots of themselves. Everyone can see who they are. In fact, if asinine comments are completely ignored, they extinguish without the attention they seek. Don't take the bait.

"Acting cocky" is a perception and projection is often an issue too. Learn to cultivate a calmer mind free of such things, and subdue your reactions to it. You'll find yourself much happier, less offended, etc. because you'll have less "buttons to push".

People are people some good some not so good, the real problem is when we start assuming any of us are smart enough to judge anyone else.
