The first answerer doesn't see a difference between treatin a horse and treating a cat?!

It's never advisable to use human medication of any kind on an animal, even something as seemingly benign as antibiotic ointment. Humans and animals react differently to medications. Antibiotics are used so commonly people forget they are actually complex medications that require professional supervision to use. If you check the leaflet that comes with this medication, I suspect it will say something like 'do not give your medicine to someone else to use even if they are displaying the same symptoms'. This includes animals!!

Animals should be checked by a vet before starting any medication otherwise you risk making a problem worse.

I'd suggest you don't. While I don't know what bad effects triple antibiotic ointment may have, I personally wouldn't take any chances with my genitals. There are better (and cheaper) things to use as lubricants. Look into KY, Astroglide, etc. Much better, and without potential bad effects.

Generally it's better to just let those sort of things heal on its own. Ointments will prevent the wound from draining and can trap bacteria underneath leading to formation of an abscess

In small quantities. A very thin layer on what ever sore your cat has is excellent, but to much and make your cat sick. Its always best to follow the advice of you vet first and foremost though. Good Luck!

Most vets will tell you never use people medicine on your pet. They lick and most of our medicine is toxic.

call your vet and ask them, don't take anyone advice from this site regarding the health and welfare of your animal without a vet to back it up.
