Bah. Chewbacca never chewed on anything. In public.
I thought this was going to be about how your cat suddenly grew to 6 feet tall and developed long hair... and the power to tear the arms off of people who don't let them win. A common housecat with that kind of power? We'd all be doomed. DOOMED. But no, you had to ask about how to stop the cat from chewing on things.
Seriously though - go to a pet store and buy something called "Bitter Apple" . It's a spray that's recommended for plants but will do on anything. Doesn't hurt the cat at all but makes whatever is sprayed on taste absolutely foul to the cat.
Or - try to figure out what your cat might be missing from his diet. They'll usually chew/try to eat things that will solve some of their malnutrition problem (like a deficiency in iron, for example)

some times its just because they like to chew no other reason. But an idea would be to go to the pet store and pick up toys they can chew on or old cloths would work

is he teething?
some cats just like to chew.
I have a cat that loves to put teethmarks in any box he can find. Cardboard pieces are everywhere and little holes are in the flaps of boxes I get in the mail.
Try returning merchandise with holes and corners ripped of saying, "I only had this a day".
Cats also like to play with the plastic ring from the milk bottles. Most of these things are harmelss for them.
But the plastic bags can cause suffocation if he chews pieces and swallows them, also string, yarn, and the like can be fun to play with but they don't know how to pull it out of their mouth and end up swallowing it, which can wrap around their intestines and cause major complications.
The only way to stop them is keeping it out of their view, taking it away from them, maybe spritzing them with some water, that may become a learned experience that anytime he plays with the plastic he get spritzed by water.

My cat is like that. He might be bored, or his teeth could be hurting him. Try to remove all the things that he chews: for instance, if he chews the strings on your blinds, loop them on a nail next to the blind out of your cat's reach. Hope this helps!

Suggestion: Buy your cat a scrating pole... or simply get a piece of wood, like a thick branch from a tree, and attach diferents kinds of string on it top, like old shoes cords, stripes of paper, cardbox, fabric, that will keep your cat entertained for some time. Just keep on changing the strings, katnip also may help.

It will not hurt to use a mild hot sauce. take a Q-tip and lightly coat cords and so on with it. BE SURE ITS MILD. This also works for counter tops and so on, they don't like this taste. And it won't hurt them. But if it is teething you need to get it some toys that are okay for it to chew, even a stuffed animal.

It sounds like he needs something to do with his time and he has discovered chewing. Have you tried finding toys for him that would be appropriate to chew on? Maybe a catnip toy or two would distract him from chewing on other things.

Okay, this is what you do. The symptoms you are experiencing are common and might not turn you into a cat. BUT WATCH OUT! You don't have to worry yet, but if you ever feel the need to buy a litter box, IMMEDIATELY go see a doctor, or else it might be too late.
