Steroids in the short term fill your body with unnaturally high levels of male sex hormones, they have an anabolic effect and will decrease your recovery time and help you put on muscle weight. You might spend between a year or a few enjoying the enhanced physique this gives you, provided you don't take something that is tainted, a dangerous counterfeit, get a bad infection or have a serious side effect like hypertrophy of the heart.
In the long term, they permanently damage your body's ability to produce it's own male sex hormones, this leads to a doughy and flabby physique, shrunken testicles and man boobs--You will spend the last several decades of your life with these attributes so ask yourself if three or four years looking like a stud is worth it.
Steroids are especially stupid because I know plenty of people who have gotten freakishly strong and freakishly muscular without ever touching them.

Weight gaining supplements that you simply buy over-the-counter are not sterroids. These are supplements which add something to your body, not push it beyond the usual limits.
"Weight gaining" supplements should only be taken following the advice of a doctor or nutritionist as they can be dangerous if taken incorrectly. "Muscle gaining" supplements such as Promax or Creatine are safe if taken correctly but consult a doctor if you have any long-standing medical issues.

I tried the weight gain powders when I was in my 275 weight range for a five year period. It works but does make me feel bloated. Also it can be expensive. When I started by 100 poiund gain two years ago, I just started eating much more. It took a while for my stomach to adjust but became easier over time. That and less exercise and the pounds added quickly. My friends who haven't seen me for a while (I used to be 220) cannot believe the change. No steroids and no powder - just eat more and more often.

I would stay away from pills or even powders - they can be expensive. To gain weight just start eating more (highter calories) and exercise with a weight lifting or resistance program. If you want fat and not muscle, take out the exercise part. I did the exercise and eat part in college and it worked well. After college due to my sedentary job, my eating and my wife's cooking, the exercise part slowed. I went from 250 to 400 in five years and was 500 by the time I was 30. I am not in my mid thirties and weigh 550 or so and love my size. I do walk to keep mobile but it is not exercise as slow as I waddle - but it keeps me going. I am also healthy - in spite of my weight. That is key.

Steroids kill you. They cause brain tumors, and other nasty things. Remember John Cusack who played the "monster" in Goonies? Yup, dead from brain tumor caused by steroids. Arnold swartsenager? had open heart surgery to repair damage caused by steroids. Other than that? their great. LOL
Want to gain weight? eat better. And don't be afraid to have a milkshake etc each day. Just don't over do it with junk food. And weigh gained from steroids goes away when you stop taking them,

The best way I have found is to do the protein shakes. If you want to gain weight you need to take in more calories than you burn.
If you are trying to gain for muscle mass you want to try creatin or a whey protein. They are good.
