Many babies start off on their tip toes but once they walk it will stop The best shoes for new walkers are the Smart Fit shoes at Payless. They provide wonderful arch support to the feet and all of the physical therapists I work with suggest those shoes.

My daughter went through stages of walking flat and then to change things up she would walk on her toes. I think many youngsters do this, but if you are concerned or think your baby does it too often ask the doctor. Some babies may have weaker Achilles heals which leads to toe walking.
My daughters first shoes were the all leather/cloth ones that fit like a loose sock so her feet could stretch and grow. They really just gave protection to the environment around her feet.
Good luck

My daughter tippy toed and one foot turned in slightly, the doctor had me put her in high tops, it puts the foot flat and the ankle straight. She was not happy at first, but in a week or so was fine. After a few months she did not need them anymore because once they are cruising everywhere they have shoes on more often when you leave your house.

I suggest nailing his feet to the floor. Seriously, how did you get it into your mind that he "needs help"? He's just learning how to maneuver. Leave him alone. I agree with the person who advised against shoes altogether. Unless you live where it snows or something what do kids need shoes for? Mine lived in bare feet, socks, and flip-flops almost up until they were in school.

Walking on his toes is normal. Just let him cruise. He'll get it in his own time. Don't stress about it...enjoy he's partial mobility and be prepared for when he lets go.

Please take this seriously, and if you don't believe me, do the research. Children should NOT wear shoes! Their feet are still being formed as long as 3 to 4 years down the road. Shoes keep their feet from properly developing. If you want your child to be happy and healthy, with no back ailments, let them go barefoot as long as you can. Please.
