As an 'American,' by which I mean I was born and came of age in the USA, I am moved to say I really do hope readers of and participants in this ongoing forum do not believe that all of us are as rude and arrogant and full-of-ourselves. The majority of 'Americans'--and by no means am I speaking of the lamentable Bushies--are genereous, caring, honest, and insightful. You will encounter them here now and again. The fundies and their first-cousins, the wacko right-wingers, do their level best to shout them down. (Let me save the fundies a second or two of their time: No, this is not a question).

According to a poll I've seen over 40% of americans believe the christian god will teleport them to heaven within their lifetime.
So while maybe not typical, you have more than enough to make america the laughingstock of the (mostly) free world.

I hardly think anyone should judge what is average by Yahoo! Answers posts or the internet in general. Of course, I am hardly a typical USAmerican in any way. I have almost given up on answering anything in the religion section because I hope for some decent dialog, but the fact is, the best I can do is not be a troll myself.
I am so glad Yahoo! finally came up with a way to block specific posters.
I also disagree with the statement that a majority of Americans support torture. I think there are a lot of people who really don't believe our government would really do that sort of thing. I wish I were one of them, but I'm not. I just speak against it and vote against those who condone it as often as possible.

This is a good point. I have discovered in my travels that people expect me to be rude and self absorbed because I am an American.
Its true that many Americans are that way, as are people of any nationality. However it is correct to say that many Americans are "generous, caring, honest, and insightful". I don't think the majority of Americans fit in that category though, but I want to extend that opinion to people around the world. The majority of people are self absorbed sheep. Period.

Then why was he voted in a second time?
America needs to grow up.
Act like a bully any you get treated like one.
The ends DO NOT justify the means. That is the fundamental difference between THEM (the terrorists) and US.* If we act like THEM then we are no better than THEM and do not be surprised when the rest of the world wants to act ethically.
Science is reality. Ignoring science makes you look really stupid and can be very damaging in the long run.
If you make laws, they apply to YOU, just as much as they do to ME. (The avoidance of this is going to be the Bush administration legacy.)
And specifically for Bush Jr.
"Because God told me to." is not a sound basis for political action.
* Yes, I do realise the huge cost of acting this way. It is a drop in the bucket compared to the long term costs of not acting ethically.

I'm British and I've got loads of American friends. I think Americans are wonderful and wish Brits were a bit more like them. You shouldn't imagine we base our views on a vocal minority, or the cretinous leader we all know most Americans despise.

maybe you should take a look in the mirror before you start making accusations

sorry your post is incorrect. The majority of americans support torture as a good means of gathering intelligence. There are many examples.
