I think Elmore James and Jimmy Reed are overrated. They both wrote many classic songs but a lot of their songs sound the same. Jimmy Reed with that shuffle beat and Elmore James with a variation of that same old trademark guitar lick.

The only blues musician that I know of that I feel is overrated is Jimmy Vaughan. All he does now is milk his late brothers legacy. He was a good rockabilly blues guitarist. Never anything better than decent IMHO.

Honestly, and I know I will get booed by a lot of people for this, but after listening to a lot of true blues musicians recently I feel that there are a lot of overrated blues musicians.

Stevie Ray Vaughan
Kenny Wayne Sheppard
Johnny Lang
Jimmy Vaughan

I also feel that anyone who thinks they can pick up a guitar and become an overnight sensation in the blues because they learned the same licks SRV had needs to wake up and have a reality check. Stevie got his licks from Albert King. Every once in a while a musician has to go back to the roots of the music in order to keep things real and keep the blues alive.

This is just my opinion people so don't give me any lip!

EASY...Stevie Ray Vaughn, hands down...

Can't really take nothin away from ole' Elmore...remember what's "trademark" now, was pretty new-ish to them (and the man did hit sonny boy williamson in the mouth with a mic stand). Eric Clapton was another puss ridin' on other's success....

No, they have been superb! you should declare any band is puffed up in the event that they are no longer on your own style, this is great. in case you like a band, you think of they deserve all the credit. in case you do no longer, you think of they are puffed up. yet you may desire to savor that somebody has expertise, whether you do no longer savor the expertise itself. Kurt grew to become right into a one in all form lyricist and vocalist, many think of he grew to become right into a genius (i do). He grew to become into respected for that in the time of his existence, there grew to become into lots communicate approximately Nirvana lyrics for the time of Kurt's existence. Now he's died, anybody remains speaking approximately it, yet they do no longer seem to be speaking approximately it because of the fact he died. As for... "no longer melodic" - nicely which music? each Nirvana music sounds distinctive, a number of them are very melodic. have you ever heard a pair of lady or All apologies? Kurt got here up with some eye-catching melodies. Then in different songs, Nirvana are uneven, this is what makes them exciting. Nirvana did no longer make each music to be a similar, they are called an creative band. "foo combatants are far greater appropriate" Foo combatants are quite stable, yet they are quite risk-free and can be uninteresting! they are no longer something slicing area or distinctive like Nirvana have been, the lyrics are not something new like Kurt's have been. Nirvana have been specific, that they had a spark approximately them, however the Foos are in simple terms yet another "quite stable" yet risk-free, bland band.

Overrated insinuates ego. There is no room for ego when you play the blues, really. You either dig what the guy is doin or you don't.
