It's on the back of my left leg, right against the thigh. It's gotten bigger ever since I was born, its reddish-purple, and pretty smooth, and its shaped like some random country from a map. Anyone have any idea what kind of birthmark it is?

it's a hemangioma, not uncommon at all. No need to worry unless is becomes darker, itches or scabs. Then I'd have it checked. But in all likely hood, it is benign. My son has a couple of those (he's 20 now) and I have seen many people with them as well. Sometimes they fade to white. Thet=y can be treated with a laser, but that hurts a bit. If it is in an out of the way place like your leg, just forget about it. If it was on your face, I'd probably have it lasered.

Port Wine Stain or Nevus Flammeus
Red or purple in color.
Can appear anywhere on body.
Most are readily visible at birth – congenital.
Can be flat or slightly raised.
Usually permanent.
Laser treatment used to help reduce color, and to improve the texture of the skin (helps to prevent nodules and pws growth which can affect lips, gums and other tissues).
