10 yrs old .. Petty theft.
It's actually a pretty funny story. See I'm from Iowa and someone told us that if you dried corn silk, you could smoke it and get a buzz. So we headed out to the cornfields (we have a few of those in Iowa) and gathered corn silk laying it out on some rocks to let it dry. Now came the hard part, we didn't know how we were going to smoke it. My older brother suggested we get some rolling papers. No one had any money so he said we could just go steal it. I'm a child of the 70's so even at 10yrs old I knew what rolling papers where so we headed off to the grocery store to score some. When we got into the store we did what every kid does, heading right for the candy area. Looking around we tried to 'spot' the papers. Unfortunatly they were right by the check out teller 'bad luck'. Since we weren't going to be able to 'score' some papers we looked for an alternative. I grabbed the first thing I saw that said 'smoke' on it and we headed for the door.
We headed out the door , little hearts pumping, and ran back to where the corn silk was drying. When we got there we walked up like we were kings! We had successfully 'ripped off' the store, what a high. When my older brother asked me if we had the papers I told him we couldn't get them but got something that would work. I pulled it out of my pocket and handed it to him. He laughted and said it wouldn't work. Wouldn't work! I was outraged! See what I had actually stolen was pipe filters.... for those of you not familiar with pipe filters they are basically plastic tubes ... Now I had my pride and I wasn't going to let my hard work go to waste. I declared that these filters would work and i'd prove it! I loaded up the dried corn silk packing it into the hole in the middle of the filter. Now i'm not sure how many people have tried to light and inhale from a plastic tube, let me assure you it's not a very bright thing to do. The tube lit up like a fuse! I didn't even get to inhale as the fumes made me gag and cough. My brother and friends just laughted and we gave up on the idea of smoking corn silk ...
Sure it was dumb but thinking back it's pretty hillarious
O and I never did get caught for this or any of the other dozens of stupid/illegal things I did as a kid.
I was a fast runner ...

I'll never forget it. Scariest time of my life. I was in a shopping mall while my father was using the phone booth to call my mother. I decided to slip into the adjacent one. I was having a blast. I kept calling random numbers but, of course they would not go through as I didn't insert any change into the slot. I was curious so, I called 911. It rang and I hung up. I didn't know that the phone call would go through. I walked away immediately back to my father and 2 other men took over the booth I once occupied. Two minutes later, a policeman walks up and starts getting tough on the guys in the telephone booth and threatened to take them to jail for "pulling pranks." I stood in the next booth hearing every word exchanged. Finally, the officer left and so did the men. They were totally confused and embarassed.
I couldn't believe what I had just done. Out of all the memories I have of my childhood, this one sticks out the most. I had no clue that you could make a free phone call. I didn't think anything was free!

17...I used to steal little things from stores, until the day came when I got caught at 18. It was horrifying. I was arrested for steeling a pair of sunglasses and had to spend the night in county jail because their computers were down and my parent's couldn't get me out. I was in there with crack whores and all kinds of scarry people that could of seriously done some damage to me. I can honestly say it scared the crap out of me and I NEVER stole anything in my life again. But like I said...I did it for about a year before getting caught.

I stomped down politic signs in someones yard when I was 13, and when the police picked me up, I found out the signs had the residents name on them: He was running for something and was supporting himself!! He wanted to press charges but the cops refused. I used to see him almost every day because I had to pass his house when I go to work!
