this could have been 100% prevented if you had kept your cat indoors like responciable cat owners do.

In all honesty, I don't think she will have tried to follow you. Cats are bonded to their homes because it's the source of food, love and shelter. If she had access to her home through the cat door, then I don't think she may have felt abandoned. People go away on holiday and their cats are there upon their return, provided that food and water was available.
You dont say how recently this happened, but she may just be a little worried by your sudden disappearance and could be hiding somewhere locally. Check with neighbours and put notes through their doors, put up posters locally, ask at vet or animal welfare clinics to see if anyone has taken her there. If you have any shops or small businesses locally, ask there too if anyone might have seen her. Basically, search everywhere you can think of.
I hope she comes home soon as I know you must be worried sick.
P.S. I am so very sorry that some people believe themselves to be in a position to judge others and have demonised you for allowing your cat outside. None of us know your circumstances. For all we know you could live in home with huge grounds or in the middle of the countryside. They are entitled to keep their pets how they like - but so is everyone else!

No, she did not follow you. She just didn't want you to leave her. She will probably come home if she is able. But why is God's name do you leave her outdoors? The life expectancy of an outdoor cat is 4 years; the life expectancy of an indoor cat is 15 years. There is a posting here in answers from someone who kept her cat outdoors, and was asking how to make her last days comfortable, since she caught feline leukemia from a stray, and was now dying.
A cat isn't adult until it is 2 years old. You left her outdoors to fend for herself at 10 months. There are so many variables you can't control outdoors. You can protect her from nothing, and you don't know what she encounters during her time out
of your environment. There are animals, people, poisons, cars. Why are you surprised and hurt that she has vanished?
I am so sorry. I know you are concerned and worried, and that you feel guilty. I feel so badly for you, and I just hurt for your little kitten standing at the end of the drive watching you leaving her. The the guilt and worry you feel is the price you pay for leaving her in the elements. I hope she comes back to you, and that next time, you will just bring her inside and let her be safe, so you know where she will be when you come home.

I've had outdoor cats all my life (they also come inside when they want). I think they are happier when they can go in and out.
10 months old is a little young to leave a cat outside while you are gone. Probably, when she came to look for you in the morning and you weren't there, she got scared. She could have wandered off, is hiding, or went up to a neighbor.
If I were you, I'd post pictures of her and talk to your neighbors. Call for her a lot. Then keep her in the house for a few days until she feels secure.
We had our two cats get out of the house while they were alone overnight. I still don't know how it happened (unless the apartment maintainance came in, but they said they didn't). They were gone for TWO WEEKS. I'd given up on them, but then a neighbor called saying he had one and the other ended up at the pound and they called us. Isn't that crazy? All we can figure is that a dog might have chased them to a part of the grounds they don't know. Normally, if a dog was chasing them, they run up into the garage, but since it was shut, they might have run off.
My point is, don't give up hope yet.

You don't say how long ago it was? She is more than likely hiding out and will come back when you have been home a while, sometimes they seem to lose trust a little if they think you left and take a while to come back. I really hope she does come home, best of luck

It would be really rare, but not impossible, for her to follow you. My bet is that she is scared (she is still a baby @ 10mo) and is hiding till she knows you are back. I would call the local shelter / pound and let them know in case she was picked up - if so, you can go get her.
