I am being offered a variety of different health plans. I don't know what to pick. Some of the HMO plans offer the same things that a PPO plan does. But I don't feel comfortable with an an HMO

PPO...you pick where you want to go
HMO...the insurance company picks where they want you to go

One of the main differences is that with a PPO you go to the doctor you want.

With an HMO you go to the doctors who participate in that HMO.

You may pay more with a PPO (and have a higher deductable and out of pocket) but from my own experience you get better care from a doctor not connected with an HMO.

Doctors connected with an HMO have to keep costs down and get approval to do an operation/procedure because the HMO will only pay so much (in some procedures they won't pay at all).

in case you do not already have a relationship commonplace with a doctor, the HMO is the greater advantageous thank you to bypass. in case you have a doctor, you could bypass with the HMO as long as your scientific expert is a member. With the HMO you're sacrificing a number of your decision in provider decision, yet you acquire value advantages. With the PPO, you get greater options, yet you pay greater for the privilege.
