If your doctor prescribed a diet for you, he/she took all of your stats into consideration (age, height, activity). There is nobody in here that could possibly hope to better counsel and contradict their prescription by writing an e-mail.

Listen to the doctor. We are all amateurs.

If you need to gain 17 lbs it will be really hard to do it without gaining a pant size or two, as well. Anyways, look up a BMR calculator and add 200 or 300 calories to it so you can gain weight safely. Then, do some weight-lifting to tone up and build muscle so that the weight you gain isn't just fat.

Gaining weight can be hard, especially for people who have little appetite or strong metabolism. Consume as much meat as possible. You need to take more calories than what your body needs daily. The doctor knows you best since he probably took consideration of your age, health, and activity level. Good luck.

Try to include some protein in your lunch. e.g. have chicken soup and wholewheat toast. Protein sources are cheese, nuts, meat.

Nope, you have bought into the Nichole Richie, I wanna look dead ideal of fashion. Try being fit, not skinny. Exercise and good diet makes women look more sexy than walking death.
