Depends on your PC. How much memory it has, how fast the processor is, how large the hard drive is. If the PC is more than a year old, go with XP. It will probably not be able to run Vista.

If it is a newer PC, go to microsoft.com and run their "Vista Advisor". It will check the PC and let you know if it can run Vista. Once you know if you even CAN run Vista, then you can make the decision.

Now if you want to use vista don't use it as the only operating system use it in microsoft virtual pc or partition your hard drive to use it right now i am using xp and vista because it is new (and made by microsoft) it has a lot of bugs and xp is still better

Dual boot or use Virtual PC, the site below walk you through the steps. I have tried both and the work great to have Vista and keep XP around in case you need it.
