OK, everyone bear with me, you are gonna like this one. atheists, I am assuming there is a God, and fundalentalists, I am assuming He created us through evolution.

OK, we evolved through the food chain, and most recently through an animal similar to a modern ape. Well, obviously apes cannot comprehend the idea of God, but we can.

So, could it be that God guided our evolution so that we would be able to communicate with Him? Could He have started us low, and guided our evolution closer and closer to the perfect creature?

Human beings are the first animal to be able to understand God. However, we can't communicate with Him. So, could it be that we just aren't evolved enough yet?

Perhaps in another million years, we will have evolved further, and we will be able to directly communicate with God.
It explains why we have no proof of God.
It explains why we evolved the way we did.

What do you guys think?

Atheists?
Believers?

You know, Republican With No Name, I have spent many an hour pondering this same question. The idea of evolution is definitely a tricky one to understand. I have to say that I agree with your belief that we were made to evolve by Him. On that same note I have a few other theories that may interest you. Just let them sink in and tell me what you think.

According to the principals of evolution, everything is subject to evolving. Birds, ants, bees, plants, animals and humans. Evolution is simply an adaptation so that the organism can survive in its environment.

So, let us assume that even evolution is subject to these principals. That would mean that as single celled organisms evolved to tadpoles which evolved to fish and so on up to man the creature and its brain was evolving. Now, though, with the time of man evolution is at risk of becoming extinct. Why you ask? Because creatures evolve to adapt to their environment. What better adaptation is there than evolving the ability to adapt your environment to you? At this point our environment can not change us anymore.

So how does evolution evolve to stay alive? By changing the organism it is evolving. In the beginning the physical attributes were evolving at a much higher rate than the mental abilities. Now, if we consider the human capacity for thought, reason and education, it isn't too far fetched to realize that we are getting smarter. Just look at how the mean IQ is rising through generations. We are able to comprehend more and more of what makes this world turn. We have quantum physicists and nuclear biologists. The new evolution is really of the mind. I have no doubt that thousands of years from now we will be using more of our brains and be capable of so much more in the mental sense of the word.

Interestingly enough though, I also theorize that evolution, a concept that was meant to allow us to survive, is essentially that which is the root cause of the planet being destroyed.

Think about it like this. When creatures evolve adaptations to their environment, it is a direct product of evolution. The Giraffe's neck, the lion's teeth, the rhinoceros’s horn. We evolved the ability to adapt our environment to us through the power of our mind, our ability to reason. Therefore, everything that the human mind is capable of is directly because evolution made it possible for us to reason. Our factories, cars, boats, planes nuclear power plants. All things the mind has created to adapt the environment to us so that our species can survive. But what's the byproduct? Pollution, green house gasses and the theory of Global Warming. Evolution created that which will destroy all creatures.

Talk about irony.

I'd really like your thoughts and opinions on this.

We can communicate with God now...it is called prayer. God made man in His image(likeness). He had open communication with Man until the fall of Adam. Once sin entered in God could no longer look upon Man and the communication was no longer face to face. God is perfect and sinless and the more sin that came into the world the less He could communicate with His beloved creation. That is why He commissioned men to write His laws and Testaments, to continue His communication with us.
Of course you realize I am a Believer and nothing that Evolution teaches makes sense, too many holes in the theory, too many things unexplained and they come up with something new to add to it. It's just a way to justify what they believe. The Truth doesn't have any links that are missed.
It comes down to faith. Mankind either believes what the Word of God says or they create other ideas because the faithless have to "see" something to believe something.
As far as proof of God, it's there all around us. Creation screams it loudly, shows it proudly! Take your hands away from your eyes and ears and talk to God...He is listening! An added note, He doesn't have to proof Himself to you. It's just the opposite. Love, Joy & Peace!

My Catholic school taught us that Adam and Eve were just a parable. Well, I think the Bible is true and mankind was created. I believe in Old Earth (Gap) Creationism. It lines up closely with science too except I believe man was created and didn't evolve. I believe we adapt to our surrounding and that is our evolution.

I've looked at scriptures in the Old and New Testament regarding creation. Also, looking at the original Greek and Hebrew for it's meaning.

We have access to God through the Holy Spirit. This is because Jesus died for us and the veil was torn. We can be filled with the Holy Spirit and have direct communication with God. He's that still small voice within.

"Proof" that God exists will happen when Jesus returns.

Bravo! A question for thought!!

Immediately throw out
1)the atheists' rantings that there is no God so they can deny, deny, deny, and
2)the literal interpreters of the Bible(instead of the spiritual) who say the World is just as God laid out in the Bible and

3)you're left with those of us willing to listen to reason and who recognize the beauty, symmetry and the changeability of this Creation.

I have my doubts that we will further evolve the spiritual gifts that God has given us but evolution should mellow us intellectually and emotionally so that we don't push the "red button of worldwide destruction" because someone has offended us.

I will give you this - you may be right because only time will tell! It would give more meaning to the old saying - "in God's good time..."

To begin with, you must know and understand this, that scoffers (mockers) will come in the last days with scoffing, [people who] walk after their own fleshly desires and say, Where is the promise of His coming? For since the forefathers fell asleep, all things have continued exactly as they did from the beginning of creation. For they willfully overlook and forget this [fact], that the heavens [came into] existence long ago by the word of God, and the earth also which was formed out of water and by means of water, Through which the world that then [existed] was deluged with water and perished. But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been stored up (reserved) for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly people. Nevertheless, do not let this one fact escape you, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.

We are definitely not done evolving yet. But what we will evolve into in the future is anyone's guess. Unless of course we take charge of our own future evolution, which we are becoming more and more capable of doing.

However, to say that God is evolving us to a state where we can have proof of him would fly in the face of all those who believe the fate of their eternal souls depends on believing in God RIGHT NOW.

For the record, I don't believe in God.

I am smart enough to know that I don't know everything. Current religions don't explain science and most don't make sense. I was raised Catholic but now I don't know. I am seriously considering Agnostic. There has to be more to lfe than this and science and religion will come to co-exist. Intelligent design seems as reasonable as evolution. I figure there will come a time when science and religion come together.

Accordingly, because of the "Fall of Man", we were cut off from God, acquiring something called "original sin". Now, I don't take the Bible at face value. Much understanding and interpretation is needed; although many claim they can understand it--hogwash.

In regards to your third paragraph, look up Theist Evolution. It's where I stand. You might go along with it, but *don't* get it confused with intelligent design.

Atheist here.

Sounds very cool. I like how it doesn't make the usual assumptions that we're the pinacle of evolution or created in God's perfect image or anything.

Of course, I always like the ontological argument too - it's so elegant - but it's not proof.
