Or is it just a ceremonial thing? I am not a Catholic, so I am not familiar with all of their beliefs, and my church does not have holy water.

I was wondering what you believe it can be used for and what it can do. Please forgive me for my ignorance on this matter.

Water has many symbolic actions - cleaning, washing, purifying, and giving life.

Holy water is water that has been blessed by a priest. it is most commonly used to bless other things or people. When used to bless people, the people are reminded of their baptism in which they became a member of teh body of Christ, they had original and any personal sin washed away, they became united in the death and resurrection of jesus Christ and became adopted sons and daughters of God the Father.

No problem, at least you aren't like some people who would just judge before they even know anything about a religion. We bless our selves with holy water before we enter the church every mass. We also use it for baptisms. Baptism removes original sin and makes you part of church. Holy water's main purpose is to bless whoever or whatever it had been put on. Hope this helps you understand. Thank you for asking instead of assuming! : )

Yes, Holy Water can do things.

It is used to bless people, and heal. It has supernatural properties that cannot be seen nor understood.

My sister's brother-in-law bought an older house. They had a lot trouble when they moved in with noises etc. It seemed that there was another presence.

They blessed each room and sprinkled it with holy water...problem solved.

During exorcism's demons react to holy water.

Holy Water is used in the catholic faith to bless, ie when entering a church it is used to bless ourselves. During a baptismal it is used by the Priest to bless the baby. You ask "can it actually do anything" of course if you truly believe it can do any thing. May your God be with you.

Holy water is a symbolic tradition.
Holy water is water that a priest blesses(or asks God to bless)
When people are sick in the hospital often a priest will come in and pray for the people and make the sign of the cross on their head with Holy Water.
It is sort of a comfort to them, and a reminder that God is ALWAYS their.
Kind of like a "peace be with you"
Hope this helps.:)
