No you cant drive your car weather you've back dated it not, anyway I think you would be taking a big chance if you drove your car because it says that the disc must to be displayed on the car and of coarse if you park it any where no one will know if you've paid or not on line, will they ? I would wait if I were you until you get the disc in a few days.

Not legally! It is an offense to place a vehicle on the public roads -- even just parked -- without displaying a valid tax disc. Even though it MIGHT be in the DVLA database (and therefore not trigger a violation in a police car with the new camera system fitted) the display of the disc remains a legal requirement.
You should have renewed at the local Post Office or DVLA office. You would have been given a tax disc on the spot. As it is now, you must park your car off the public roads until the disc arrives.

Nope! You have to have a valid tax disc on show in the vehicle otherwise you can not drive it. If you look at the leaflets you will have received with your reminder, it does actually say that you have to apply for them in good time if you are processing the tax renewal on line.
If you were pulled, you MIGHT get away with it by explaining that you have ordered the new tax disc... the police can check with the DVLA to ensure that the car is taxed. I wouldn't recommend chancing it though!

Actually if you read the information on the site, no you can't. Your supposed to get your tax disc before it runs out. I'm sure though that if you printed the reciept and showed it if you were stopped you would get away with it.

you could, but the police can stop you for failing to show a valid tax disc and give you an on-the-spot fine of £50, despite paying for it online

No you can't, not legally. It makes no difference whether it has been paid for or not, the offence is "failing to display a valid tax disc", which is absolute. Either you're displaying it or you're not.
