Hey, I am 24 and have been through a few jobs, some i stayed forever even though i hated it and some did like but not enough hours. The problem i have, is I always , always, feel so guilty quitting a job. Its takes me weeks to even get the nerve to give notice, and my family and friends always have to hear me talk about it 24/7. I feel its the only thing that defines me sometimes (my job), because thats all people ask me all the time..so when i quit jobs i feel like a loser even though the job makes me very miserable. For example i worked one job 2 years as a first aid attendent, i got so bored of it, i drove myself into booze and depression, if i would have just quit that wouldnt have happened. I am looking for a job right now again, but trying to be picky so i can actually have fun going to work once in awhile. But i cannot understand the huge guilt trip i get on when i quit a job, anyone else like this? and how can i just forget and move on from old jobs...thanks for any advice

no regrets ever hun. that's what i live by. you can't go through life regretting what you have done. i like the advice one person gave you about finding another job before you quit the current one. it sounds to me like you are highly intelligent and certain jobs bore you. i think this because i am the same way. i am in the fabrication business myself. unfortunately, i am not as happy as i probably should be. i was in the military and that i loved. i still do. i got hurt and now i can never go back so i make a decent living doing what i do. i will never feel guilty for trying to better myself and neither should you. you are worth more than that. you need to realize that it's just a job. not who you are but rather what you do. i love the discipline of the military and i have been a marine for a long time, however, i am a man first and a child of God before anything. that's what keeps me going and not regretting anything.

I know the feeling. The guilt emerges because our society has us believe that we are meant to work for money. There is nothing wrong with not wanting to work somewhere that makes you feel miserable. Keep looking until you find something you are comfortable with or get some training to work at a job you think you would like. Sometimes it's simply the people who work at that particular place, and sometimes it's the actual nature of the work that makes you miserable. It's very stressful to be unemployed, but if you settle for something you don't like, it's much worse in the long run. Best of luck - and remember, you are a human being FIRST - work is just work!

i know how you feel but i found the best way to deal is to just ignore them and find other things to talk about that or maybe find some other people to hang out with that dont talk about jobs all day long and worry about others lives. Good luck on the job hunt i myself am looking for a job :( it suxs i hate job hunting. Oh well... Btw a lil bonus advice what do you like to do like ex. do you like kids maybe try babysitting or something like watching movies you could work at a movie store or place. That or go to school and find some interest while there and earn the ability for a better job.

First of all do you have any education? If you do pick a job you like. Working is a lifetime thing and you have to love your job or you will always be miserable. Just give your notice and that is that. Nothing to feel guilty about. Just tell them this job is not for you.

You shouldn't be so hard on yourself. My husband has his on business and people come and go, that's business. If you are bored in your job, get another one, do that until you as a person is satisfied. How can people judge you for the work you do, you are who you are, with or with out a job. You are young so go out and find what YOU want, and if it takes you to quit 10 jobs before you get what you want, then so be it. You owe that to yourself to do something YOU want and be happy. Good luck

I was asked by a 14 yr/o son, of a friend of mine last summer "what do you do for a job?"..told him I'm a welder..then he said "do you love it?" then he says "you have to do what you love, and love what you do" lil punk made me think...I got sucked into my work, because I was curious, and became really good really fast, but do I love it...I like to be challenged more than in current job...maybe it's time to move on myself, I don't like production welding, fabricating to me is where I should be..I'll quit jobs for more $ to get back working for less doing more what makes me happy, a job where I actually hafta think...any monkey can run production...same parts a million times...draw me a picture and I'll make it to the picture..thats how I like do it....bottomline listen to the kids advice "DO WHAT YA LOVE, LOVE WHAT YA DO!"

first, convince yourself that it was for the best. second, find a higher paying job (if possible). third, before you quit your job, get hired somewhere else so that when you quit you still have a job.
