My teacher wanted us to find out more about asthma. After I found out what it really was, I'm really worried it will happen to me. Well, I'm thirteen and never had asthma. Will I still get asthma? My mom told me I had turned blue while I was a baby but was treated. Will there be anymore problems in my health now and in my future?

Sounds like a bad case of paranoia to me. But yes, it is possible to get asthma in your teenage years. It's not common, but it happens. You can get it from just being around alot of irritants in the air. I got it when I was a teen, but that's because I smoked back then. I think you have a little case of hypochondriasis, since you didn't worry about this until you heard about it. I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's pretty easily controlled if you do have it anyway.

As for your question "Will there be anymore problems in my health now and in my future?"...the answer is always yes. You can't expect to live your whole life without health problems and concerns. The human body was not made to last, so sooner or later you will experience difficulties. Just take care of yourself, and hopefully that will not be for a long time!

If you are aware of the symptoms of asthma, and have not shown these symptoms in the past on a regular basis, then you don't have asthma, and are very unlikely to get it now. Don't worry, you will be fine. There a are alot of medical problems and diseases out there that are pretty scary, but don't drive yourself crazy worrying about whether you will get them. You're gonna be fine!

Asthma usually appears at around age 2, but can appear later, usually before age 10. Some people grow out of it, but my husband is nearly 30 and still suffers, especially when it's allergy season.

I too had asthma as a baby, but once I grew out of it, it never returned and I am now 52. But be careful not to smoke, that can cause it to return.

asthma is a lung disease.. it can develop at anytime, but if you stay in good health there is no reason to worry about this - worry solves nothing, changes nothing, except to make you sick! Live life, enjoy yourself and stop worrying about things that haven't happened yet, and may never happen! Trust me, you will be happier..
