DB - Thanks for your instruction. You're right, it is Prov. 1

As for "changing" the word "fear" for "reverence", please see:

Excellent. Lovely. Who could disagree? Who would not want it?

Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

You have used the synonym reverence correctly. Awed, awestruck, amazed are also implied.

First, I don't think it is in Proverbs 3.

Second, I think you should have left the word "fear" in.

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,
But fools despise wisdom and instruction." (Proverbs 1:7)

Third, it is a great verse out of a great Book. What else do you want to know?

The Fear of the Lord...
...is the beginning of knowledge.
...is the beginning of wisdom.
...is to hate evil.

Learn of the Lord.
Apply His wisdom to our circumstances.
Adopt His hatred for sin.

It's the message of the Gospel in rudimentary form;
to become more Christ-like.

I prefer the word "fear" to "reverence".
Anyone who doesn't fear an omnipotent Holy Being with power and authority to cast one eternally into the lake of fire is about as stupid as it is possible to be.
Thank God for the blood of Jesus, but woe to those who despise it.

"I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Rather reminiscent of the words of the Lord Jesus, "I am the truth and the life."

I think that only when we understand that there's a lot that we DON'T understand, do we start to become wise. It's not a destination, however - it's a journey :-)

I think they're Jewish fables written a few thousand years ago. Can we have any meaningful questions in this section for once?
