Im 38 weeks almost 39 on Sunday. I have been dilated at 4cm since I was 36 weeks and lost my mucas plug then but the doctor said it could grow back. The past few days it appears that I have been loosing it again and I have these sharp pains across my lower back for short moments at a time could this be contractions? When I went to the doctors on Monday they said that my cervix had dropped which I guess is another step in labor and that was before I started to loose my mucas plug. Also yesterday I had soreness and leakage in my nipples which has never happened. I know my babys coming but does this stuff mean soon cause I dont want to go to the hospital and be sent home again? Also are my back pains contractions?

you could be having back labor.

Depending on which way the baby is laying the baby could also be causing your siatic nerve to be pinched which would cause the same kind of pain or similar.

But my best guess would be it's a bit of back labor. Try light stretching when it happends. or have your husband massage hard enough where your still comfortable. with the grain of the muscle. use a bit of lotion to do it and as he's doing that stretch as well in the oppisite direction. That may help to eazy some of the pain.

they could easily be what is called Braxton-Hicks contractions. Basically that is your body's preparation for going into labor. I had them for months prior to delivery.
Losing your mucous plug is a bit more serious, and it may not grow back, so avoid sexual contact for the remainder of your pregnancy. When you have the pains, lay down until they have passed and for at least an additional thirty minutes.
When your water breaks, then you know it's true labor.

This is the early stage of labor, Sart timing them, and when they're 5 min apart, then go to the hospital.

you should go to the doctors to be safe so when your baby is due you are already in good hands. they will tell you why you are having back pains, it's probably from the strain of the baby.

well they sound like contractions to me, some people do feel them mostly in the back instead of the abdomen. Good luck!!!
