I believe that the sooner you know, the better it is to inform your boss/supervisor. A Friday afternoon, doesn't give much time to have a replacement ready (depending on type of work you do) for that Monday, leaving your shift shorthanded. If you have one of those jobs where it really doesn't affect whether you're there or not...then I'd say it was okay. Be prepared to have a very good excuse of why you won't be there.
You could call in sick on Monday Morning...this shows something unexpected happened (even though, you knew you weren't going to be there a few days before). Keep it on the down low and don't make it a habit.
Good Luck!!

Well, you should probably book the time off properly, and make sure that your boss is ok with it. I know at my job, if I just iddn't show up without letting someone know, I'd be in a lor of trouble.
Alternatively, just call in sick on Monday. It's better than nothing.

Normally you would book the time off in advance.
If this is a last minute thing for pleasure - only you know your boss well enough to know how he would react.
If you really, really want the time off and know that he would not give it to you for what you want to do, you will have to come up with a very creative, believable lie.

Telling your boss as soon as you know is paramount to gaining their respect and maintaining it. If you consistently fail to meet your mandated schedule you create a difficult situation for your boss. Even if your boss is your friend they will still be wondering why they are having to make adjustments to the workload to accomodate your problems. Advance notice affords them a chance to plan accordingly.

How long has this been known that you need off Monday?
Should have told them as soon as you found out.
I would tell them now, and hopefully they are understanding.

it depends on the reason you wont be there, some bosses would prefer the notice but if your reason is a good one then it shouldnt really matter

Give your boss as much notification as possible. He/she may need time to get a replacement for you.
