I had a blood test about 48 hours ago, and was just wondering how long I need to leave the gauze taped over the needle mark for?
A canular was left in the site after the blood test, which was removed about 42 hours ago, if this affects anything.

you technically never need to have it covered. normally only 10 minutes or so, or whenever it stops bleeding. and don't carry anthing heavy with that arm for a few hours.

Technically....you don 't need to cover it at all once the bleeding stops.

Guaze is historically held over the site with slight pressure until the bleeding stops (a minute or two). However, most people that draw blood today are in a hurry due to increased work demands or other reasons and don't have time to sit and hold it on there, so they slap a bandaid on instead. The bandaid also makes some people just feel better even though it really serves no useful purpose.

to be safe, you can remove the plaster after 4 hours but dnt carry heavy objects on the affected arm to prevent force which can cause bleeding again
