There was a great and tall oak tree. It towered above the grass and would make callous remarks toward the grass about being so tiny.

One day a mighty storm came and ripped the tree up with it's powerful gusts. The tree lay on the ground, dying with it's roots exposed. It asked the grass, "How is it I have fallen, when I am so mighty, and you are still here."

"We bend with the wind rather than fight against it." replied the grass.

John F,

I'm 23 and haven't been to school in about 7 years. I am merely asking questions and providing stories that will hopefully make people think deeply.

Well this is what i get from your story:
The taller tree could represent pride and the smaller one represent humility. "Pride goeth before a fall"

Also, Notice when the wind blew the taller tree stood up and fought back because it failed to realized that this storm is just as determined as it was (both were great and mighty). However the grass looking at things from a more thorough perspective saw that it would be better to try and flow with the storm (bending over) and so to lesson the blows that would come.

If the oak tree hand allowed itself to bend then it would have had another day to fight when it is much stringer.

In the end the one that took things with wits rather than with strength won the battle. Sometimes its better to think things through rather than to fight things through.

" A soft answer turneth away wrath but grievous words stir anger"

There are lots of other lessons that could be learned from this story. Thanks for sharing it.

Hmm...its an example of how some times when up against a supierior force it is better to bend then to try and stand against it and be ruined.

The mistake would be to take this as how you should act across the board....lets not forget that there are many things (lawnmowers, animals, shovels) that can destroy the grass yet the tree never has to worry about.

So...it basically applies to life by asking you to consider when you start to make a stand if this is a battle you can win or will it destroy you if you try.

Learn how to roll with the punches. It has been said many different ways and is always true.

Nice story......thought provoking.

The bigger they are...the harder they fall.

I think it speaks of the danger of self righteousness....and trusting in yourself rather than in Christ
