Why wouldn't they be accountable and just give me their best guess. if they can spend their whole morning on yahoo they can at least answer my question. not tell me to see a councelor
NOTE: Accountability is a term used by councelors. I have more knowledge about "counceling" than some of you will have accumulated in your life time.

Of course I don't know of the previous situation that you're talking about, but as a student being trained in psychology I'd have to question whether you know more about "counceling" than others ever will, because you can't seem to even spell it correctly.

All jokes aside, it may be a good idea to suggest seeing a counselor when giving an answer may pigeonhole you. For example, if someone feels depressed and asks a question on here and someone says "yes, you're depressed," then it can cause a misdiagnosis if that person ends up not being depressed -- say if they are suffering from bipolar disorder. The smarter and safer answer is to suggest seeing a counselor, because a counselor can take an adequate personal and medical history, and certainly know you better than someone who hears just one question that ask on here. Best of luck to you.

Why see a counselor?

You may

- have problems with a relationship, depression, insomnia or nightmares.

- have problems related to substance use or to trauma earlier in your life.

- be in a transitional life phase and wonder, Where do I go from here?

- be concerned about anothers behavior.

There are probably as many reasons to see a counselor as there are people.
Each persons concerns are unique; each persons pain is real.

The goal of counseling is

- to help a person deal with mental, emotional and/or behavioral problems.

- to help a person gain insight.

- to learn about oneself

- to provide a safe place for a person to grow.

A good counselor is a trained professional who will take a great deal of time to explore your problem, and who should have realistic treatment plans that hopefully won't do you more harm than good.

Don't expect much more than educated guesses about mental health problems on Yahoo answers.

If indeed you do have so much more knowledge about counseling, why are you asking such a question?

Being accountable and being foolhardy are two different things. It is accountable to offer their best advice. It is foolhardy to think they have the professional training and knowledge to act as counselors for you.

You have a chip on your shoulder. Why ask about counseling if you already know so much about it? Do what you want. No one cares.
