We're having our wedding where I grew up, on the Oregon coast. It's a "destination" for a good part of our guests, but it's not crazy, like asking them all to fly to some exotic island. The Pacific northwest has BEAUTIFUL beaches and is a more unique location than the typical beach weddings (Jamaica, Bahamas, etc). I'd look into. Google image search "Cannon Beach, Oregon" for some pictures.

I know you don't want to hear this, but do NOT waste tooo much money on a wedding. If you decide a nice wedding on a beach in Costa Rica or something, great. Tell those you invite (no more than 10, closest family and friends), they pay their own way and hotel. Feed 'em and be done. Tell them that they can stay after the wedding, but that you are on your honeymooon and will be nowhere in sight and unavailable. DO NOT rent a church or some other facility or the Eiffel tower (if you're Spurs' tony Parker), invite 100's of guests, feed ALL of them afterwards, rent a DJ, etc...etc....etc... Save this money for the honeymoon, gifts to each other or downpayment on a house for you two to begin your lives together. I spent 7grand on my wedding (just the food, DJ and rental) for the reception. Shoulda, coulda, woulda, NOT done that. So, going with my recommendation, here are a few spots I have been and/or friends and they say they are awesome: It also depends on you and your husband... hot beach, cool inland or just a secluded resort.
1. Costa Rica -- I have never heard 1 bad word about Costa Rica. Not realy touristy either.
2. Australia
3. Canada--(again, if you like inland and cool weather, Niagara is nice and they are okay with Americans.--AVOID Quebec.
4. Cruise - now you can pick any destination with a cruise wedding. Again, pick you and your husband's fancy, with this you can do Costa Rica, Alaska, (Top 2) followed by Europe or even the 2 week cruise from florida to california through Panama Canal.

A lot of resorts will comp. the weddings on their property. My recommendation is the all inclusive Paradisus Palma Real in Punta Cana Dominican Republic. The resort will be 2 years old in December and it's an amazing location, it is a 5 star location with 5 star restaurants, huge pools, directly on the beach, golf course (included in the all inclusive but you have to pay cart fees - still a good deal), amazing spa (ask for a bride's discount, they might give you 20% off, or even comp it for you, never hurts to ask) and of course, it's all inclusive (even the horseback riding on the beach is included).
Punta Cana is one of the fastet growing tourist locations in the Caribbean right now, the area is safe (no real need to go off property other than to go to the new mall just outside the property, they added a Hard Rock Cafe there too), the area is mainly resorts and it's fairly secluded so the beaches are pristine.
I hope this helps a little!

I'm also planning a destination wedding! At first we wanted to go to Aruba bc it's soo beautiful and not too expensice, but alot of our friends and family wouldn't be able to afford it, and having everyone get passports is a pain. We've settled on the Florida Keys - which are both tropical, affordable, and no passport needed! We're treating ourselves to a honeymoon in the Bahamas afterwards.
Check out - caribbeancatering.com and akeyswedding.com for a great caterer and wedding planner!
