Some "funny" groomsmen thought it was a great idea to throw silly string as a joke to the couple at the reception. It was funny until the aerosole propelled string caught fire on the candles that where decorating the head table!!!! It made a huge fire ball right on their faces,. Luckily, no one was injured.... but no one had fun after that.
Totally true
Oh! I just remember one, in my SIL's wedding, granpa was walking down the aisle, he was very elderly (has past since then), and during the walk...his pants fell down!!!.. He didn't even noticed it and just kept on walking. Everyone was trying to contain their laughter at the church,... and his daugther (the mother of the bride) rushed to lift his pants up. As she was putting the pants up, he just kept on walking. The episode was very brief and some people didn't even noticed (to include gramps!). It was hilarious.

Some of the mishaps/strange things I've seen........
1) the bride stood too close to the candles and her veil caught on fire
2) The grooms mother fell in the shower a couple of hours before the ceremony and broke her arm in 3 places and had to miss the ceremony.
3) The bride was off site getting some pictures taken and then the limo drive got lost and couldn't find the church. She was an hour late
4) the bride had never actually heard her soloist perform. He sounded something like what I'd imagine a (Live) cat going through a shredder would sound like. < I was the director>
5) the brides grandfather was getting dressed for the wedding and had a massive heart attack and died
There are lots more but these were the first I thought of.

I'm shocked that I keep reading answers that are telling you to get over it.. I mean you paid for a service, and because you are paying for that service, it should be done the way that you, the customer, requests. It's a big deal when the key person who you need to get married is as unprofessional as she was, especially on a day that is so important to you. I would have been upset as well, and I think your frustration is completely valid. And as far as people saying that the vows aren't important, as guests don't remember them, I don't think that's true at all. The vows are one of the points during the ceremony and reception that are for you and your future husband. If the guests don't remember, that's fine, but this is a moment where you declare your love and life long promises to each other. And personally I don't think it's a service that you should have to settle for.

I dont think I've seen a wedding mishap from what I have been to, but I do see lots of fainting wedding party members on the funnest home videos, or fights for the bouquet.
Once I fell on my butt trying to catch the bouquet and actually got it....but I'd hardly call that a mishap..

TOTALLY TRUE!
I had this greenery arrangement that had candles in it in the baptistry above the stage adn the A/C was blowin on the candles makin them burn faster than planned, they ended up catching on fire....hah! Luckily my uncle ran up to put it out, but he's pretty short, so he had to climb on stuff to reach it...in front of 200 guests because this all happened right after the moms were seated and right before the wedding party came in! Got a pretty big laugh out of a lot of people!

I was one of the tallest girls at my friends wedding, and when she threw the bouquet, I caught it, and then dropped it immediately when I remembered that she had hired a videographer, and I didn't want to be on her wedding video having some random stranger pulling up my dress to do the garter dance. Anyhow, when I dropped it a bunch of catty girls started fighting over it, and when one of the girls finally caught it, another girl grabbed her by the hair and punched her in the face and broke her nose. Of course, the videographer caught it all on tape.
Things got a little weird after that.

This isn't exactly a mishap, but I was at a wedding where the groomsmen had taken a marker and written "Please help me!" on the soles of the groom's shoes. When he and the bride were kneeling a the altar, everyone saw the message. There were some very unhappy people who did NOT see the humor.

My friends, Debbie & Gordon, were getting married. When it was his turn, Gordon said, "I, Debbie, take thee, Gordon..."
He started again, but not until we all got a good laugh out of it!
