Is it an appropriate reaction to Muslim outrage at the Khight bachelor award given to the novelist 'Sir' Salman Rusdie for his services to literature?

NB: the award was bestowed by the "hardline Pakistani Ulema Council." (Metro news 22 June 2007)

It is a tough choice we must make, that being to see and perceive this man as a man and not his Religion. An award by a council to a man is just that, an award to a man by a council, it is not a universally accepted award, nor is it universally justified and neither is a Knighthood universally accepted nor universally justified.

We should not judge these events at all, for in judgement we allow and show justification, we are reacting in outrage which is what they seek. They want our outrage, this is their purpose.

A man who lives by the sword runs the risk of dying by it and we should remember that there are many Religious folk who do not seek nor live by the sword and this is especially true in Islam.

These events are a travesty it is true, yet by judgement we make these events worthy, yet they are not. Those that seek to cause outrage only do so for selfishness, they seek to outrage so that they can use that reaction as fuel for further outrages...let us deny them this fuel.

Let us turn our backs on these outrageous folks. By showing them our disdain and our rejection, by refusing them the pleasure of our outrage, by denying them their validity, we will be denying them their place in society and denying their place in humanity....we will be denying them their very existence and denying them their purpose...

Let us not react to their stupidity like children, let us instead show them our maturity by boldly standing up and purposefully rejecting their "I'll hold my breath and stamp my feet till I get my way" childishness and immaturity.

Peace from a Buddhist...

Dont know y any true muslim would do that??? Osama bin laden is not a representetive ofislam, Islam does not promote terrorism. Some people interprit word from the qu'ran wrongly, then use then as an excuse for their evil actions. Salman Rushdie should never have been awarded knighthood, did the queen not stop to think of what outrage that would cause?? NO! The reason being, she is anti islamic and knew it would provoke outrage. She was probably hoping for someone to retaliate and then there would be even more in the media about how islam is an evil religion.

It makes them look very bad. The more intelligent among them, who have actually looked at Rushdie's infamous novel , know that it is not blasphemous but are going with the flow. Then, to add insult to injury, they are honoring a man who is a killer of many innocent people, something their religion condemns. So they cut themselves twice with this double edged sword they present to a villain.

This just makes it look like Osama Bin Laden represents all of Islam.

If that is why they want, well, then that is their choice, albeit I do think, it is a bad choice.

Personally, it just makes me think less of them than I already do (fundamentalists, not moderates). How many Muslims have actually read 'The Satanic Verses'?

Glorifying someone who is a very poor representation of their Religion according to them, does little except solidify people's negative opinions about their Religion.

I am truly saddened. To think hate, murder, and violence is worthy of a religious award is heart breaking.

I think its appropriate. He is using the "Sword Of Islam" to spread his interpretation of Sharia to others. But I would argue that Bush and the U.S military should get that award. They've been cleansing Islam of infidels.
