Well it was the Romans but the Chief Priests and other Jewish leaders of the day instigated it because it was unlawful for a Jew to put anyone to death! He was charged with Blasphemy.

The Roman Governor, Pontius Pilates ordered him killed for stirring up rebellion. The Roman's had helped Herod, a former slave, kill the royal family and forcefully marry the last remaining girl from the family to try and legitimise him as king of Judea. Jesus walking around being hrealded ad King of the Jews was a direct threat to Herod and Pontius Pilates as the Roman governor.

The Sanhedrin trial described in the New Testament is a joke- clearly written by somebody with no knowledge of jewish law and trying to create a scenario to redirect the blame to the Jews, instead of the Romans they wer ebusy trying to convert- since the Jews had already rejected them.

1) It takes place at night- all trials were held during the day
2) It takes place in a private home- all trials in jeruslaem were held in the court of the Sanhedrin in the Temple courtyard
3) There were very few people present - there have to be a minimum of 21 judges in a capital case- in Jerusalem the full Sanhedrin of 70 judges heard capital cases.
4) If a court cannot find a person guilty, they are forbidden to hand them over to secular authorities - the "court" in the NT does not find jesus guilty and then hands him over.

So four serious violations of the halacha (Jewish law)- which since they were in a capital case means the death sentence for those committing the violations- yet the NT keeps slandering the Pharisees and their strict adherence to the law!

On top of that, the concept that the Jews could force Pilates to do anything is only credible to anyone who refuses to face the facts recorded about him in histporical sources. This is a man who that had to be removed from power for "excessive cruelty". Ones mind boggles at what would be considered excessive cruelty by the Romans- considering their entertainment included watching armed, trained fighters massacring woman and children in an arena, watching wild animals eat people alive etc. Pilates was a seniour Roman official, a governor in charge of a province- there is no way a bunch of local, powerless rabbis would have been able to force him to do anything!

perhaps you and I didn't stand with the crowd outside the Roman governor's palace on that fateful day and demand that Pilate execute Him. But in a far deeper way you and I were just as responsible for His death as they were. Let me explain.

The key is to understand why Jesus died on the cross. Jesus didn't die because He was weak and powerless or because He had no choice. Remember: He was the Son of God, and as He told Pilate, "Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?" (Matthew 26:53). Instead, He submitted to His death willingly and voluntarily.

Why did He do this? He did it for one reason: to become the final and complete sacrifice for our sins. You see, by nature you and I are separated from God because of our sins, and our greatest need is to have our sins forgiven. As the Bible says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

But we can't take away our own sins; only God can do that. And that is what Jesus did for us on the cross. He was without sin, but all our sins were placed on Him and He died in our place. That is why we are all responsible for His death, for we are all sinners. Don't let pride or anything else keep you from Christ, but by faith open your heart to Him today.

The Jews under Roman occupation of Israel had no jurisdiction to impose a death penalty. Only the Roman authorities could do that.

Jesus's death was a direct result of his popularity threatening the Roman administration and the political influence of the priests. Pontius Pilate's refusing to free him and "washing his hands" of him was the death sentence. All the subsequent suffering and his execution were carried out by Roman soldiers who, if you remember, even gambled for his clothes at the foot of the cross.

And, before you go off frothing at the mouth against Jews, remember ALL the disciples who spread the gospel were Orthodox Jews who followed Mosaic Law.

I was one of them that He died for, so I believe it would be me. I don't ever want to do that to Him again, but at the time I really had no other choice. He wanted to do it for me, and His death on the cross was the only way that I could get Home. I think its sad when the Jews get defensive about this, I guess they didn't hear Him say "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do".

Those who willfully go out into a life of sin put Him back on the cross. So much for once saved always saved theory, Hebrews 6:1-8, 10:29

No "people". The religious leaders of time conducted a mockery of a trial and forced the Roman leaders to give in to their pressure and turned him over to be crucified. They talked/forced the people into backing them up by asking for the release of a criminal rather than Jesus. Roman soldiers did the actual crucifixion.

Satan did ... but he hoodwinked the Jews and the Romans to do his dirty work for him.

It was the sin of Adam and the collective sins of all mankind that made it necessary for Jesus to permit such a thing to be done to him, in order to bring about the ultimate destruction of the forces of evil, restore grace to mankind, and repair the rift of sin that existed between man and God.

Jesus was a threat to the religious leaders of his time. They were the ones who instigated the crucifixion of Jesus. The Jewish people should not be blamed for it.

Peace and blessings!

Pilate wanted to let Him be beaten and then excused, but the Jews pleaded for His crucifixion because the Pharisees wanted it done. The Roman soldiers, however, were the ones who did the physical dead of beating and crucifying.

Everyone had something to do with it.

Well God sent his Son to die for the sins of the world. Then Jesus went willingly to the cross. Then it was the sinners.
