The only one that really makes sense to me is Terry Labonte racing for Waltrip.... Its the only way that car will get into the race!! It doesn't make much sense, a lot of the guys being replaced are young drivers and not experienced with the road courses. Well HOW THE HELL ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO GET EXPERIENCE WHEN THEY ARE TAKEN OUT OF THE CARS?! I don't think any of the road course ringers will do much anyway...
Jeremy Mayfield is getting taken out, and he has 3 top tens at Sonoma?!
Tony Raines is out of his car and his team is 27th in owner points, not really near that 35th spot...

If they can find a ringer to replace someone with no road racing experience its not a good thing. Have that guy come in with an additional car and teach the young guy.
The ringers have problems adapting to NASCAR too. New pit crew, crew chief, new car. Makes setting up the car more difficult. I think if they run a few races with the team throughout the season they would be much better prepared to run a NASCAR road race when the time comes.

I don't get it either. The ringers over the past few years have only averaged about a 21st place finish. Some times they don't replace a driver instead a team adds a car for the one race to try to get a win.
The top Nascar drivers consistently out run the ringers even though many ringers are road course champions.

There are some Drivers who just don't like or can't handle Road Courses so their Team owners bring in Ringers to try and bulster Team Points. So if a Team is just inside the Top 35 and they know their Driver is terrible at road courses they will bring a Ringer in to insure they stay in the top 35 in Team points.

If you notice, the big teams like Hendricks, Gibbs and Childress don't do that. They have drivers who can do the road course thing as well if not better than the Ringers. Example, J Gordon and Tony Stewart. For some reason, other teams think that by hiring Ringers, they can get a win. Sad isn't it??? Don't look for a ringer to win this week either. Keep your eye on the NEW DADDY.

This is a question thats been going on since the 50's .The owners want the points so they get a "road course specialist".
over the years this act has drawn all sorts of response and the bottom line is every road course will see the ringers.

To start with, where did you get the idea that road course ringers don't get paid? They aren't good enough to make it full time in NASCAR, but they are still professional drivers.
Your assumption that NASCAR needs them is laughable.
Now be good and go watch a soccer game.

I just love the term road course "ringer".While the so called ringers have had varying success the best road course racer of all time is,yes, you guessed it the current points leader,So bring in all the "ringers" you want my money is on the #24 and the #20 giving him all he can handle.

They can all turn right or left, but very few of them can turn right and left and still go fast. Owners bring in the ringers to gain owner points, especially if their driver is not in contention for the chase. Also, sponsors like to see their cars up front where they get more bang for their buck.

Some drivers are oval drivers only. Road courses are more difficult to some drivers, which makes the drivers that succeed at both ovals and road courses look so much better. (Examples: Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart.) If you knew your driver couldn't cut it at a road course and you could bring in a guy to keep you in or around the top 35 in owners points, wouldn't you use him? I would.
