When i burn off a movie in windows dvd maker it does not burn off on 16:9?

Question

Here's the prob, i use windows dvd maker. i add the divx movie file which is already 16:9 aspect ratio. i put settings in dvd maker as 16:9 and format pal. but when the movie has burnt off and played it is not in widescreen. but it is squished together, leaving a broad band to the left and right affecting picture quality instead of a broad black band above and below the picture as in standard widescreen movies

I found movie Edit Pro 12 is the best I found for high quality burs, including 16:9 support.

Not the quickest, but the output quality is great.
