Who becomes "fat" on deployment and who gets "buff"
I've been to the middle east on many deployments and this has become a trend. Now that I've retired and no longer deploy, does anyone still see this happen?

It is amazing when the guys come home! Mine always comes home buff and looking fine. And then you see the guys that you would swear were 6 months pg. Made you really wonder if they were deployed to the same spot!

On his last deployment, my husband spent almost every non-working hour in the gym. (Still not sure why he didn't use some of that free time to call me!) He ordered all kinds of vitamins and supplements online, and came home in the best shape of his life. Then came block leave - and he gained all the weight back! He was actually looking forward to another deployment so he could get back in shape again!

Alot of it depends on what they do and where their camp is. Most of the camps have good facilities, which include a weight room, so they have their families send them protein drink mixes and bars and work out when they have free time. Other camps aren't so nice. The guys that are out on patrol most of the time don't always get to eat 3 meals a day, so they will only eat 1 meal a day. The MRE's are high calorie, because sometimes that's all they get to eat, so if they are eating a lot of them, they could gain some weight.
