Many casinos color the cheap bedrooms in their hotels black, so guests will not stay in them, but go down and gamble. Dark colors make the room smaller.
From this, you can see it depends whether you want a warm and inviting bedroom - say gold - or a cold but exciting bedroom - say silver with frosted blues - or a place that you just want to go to sleep in - say a cornflower blue with cream trimmings.
I could go on, but you get the idea. Oddly enough, pink for a certain sort of girl can be very sexy.

I did a midnight blue and gold room. I painted my walls a soft muted yellow, and my ceiling blue with celestial swirls. I asked the home depot man lol and he directed me to the specialty rollers. And I made a gauzy midnight blue canopy for my bed, sanded down and painted all my furniture dark blue, and added gold star and moon handles (cheap) then I got mixed panels of sheer organza like gold and blue fabric, some of that no sew seam maker and made curtains, and took off my closet door and put a curtain on that too! :D
OH! And the neon green/black idea-- I recently did something like that for my little brothers room! We made it an x box den! We did limegreen walls but it was WAY too intense. You'll get sick of it FAST! So we repainted it light grey, with a thick lime green stripe going around the room in the middle of the wall. We did do black furniture with green hardware though. :D Lol sorry thought it was funny that someone else had the same idea! GOOD LUCK GIRL, MAKE IT YOUR OWN!
I also did a lavender and silver room.
And most recently I did a paris glam kinda room. I painted my walls a rich deep red, with one gold accent wall. I used abunch of parisian black accents, and bought a cold silky comforter with tonsa pillows. I found a bunch of the stuff at Ross's
And now I'm working on my bedroom again! I'm going with a Moroccan/Indian theme. With a lot of rich jewel tones, deep amber, emerald green, deep purple, with some hints or orange and fuschia. Lots of different textures and what not.
And every time I make over my room, I PAINT the walls, buy new curtains/bedding. And a few new accessories to really make the room. But furniture I just sand down and paint, curtain rods, paint, picture frames, etc, PAINT! Lol Hope this helps!!!

It's easier than it sounds... What's your favorite color? Do that one, along with accents of colors that are close to that one, plus one or two artsy items around the room in a contrasting color. For example, you could paint the walls lime green with a forest green stripe running the horizontal length of the wall, and then find a poster (or make your own abstract art!) that is mostly maroon and red.
The big thing to keep in mind for a bedroom is that you want the colors to be relatively subdued; vivid warm tones are not relaxing, and you want your bedroom to be as relaxing as possible.

I totally agree with you on the pink!!!! My colur of my walls in my room are light green (cause' i love green ) and my closet, i hate the colur sooo much. It's called light pink. my mom picked it out. My dream room would be Dark Purple with any colur green dots all around the walls. I was thinking of doing Hot pink ( even though I hate pink ) and Hot green dots all over on my new mustang. That would be so awsome!!!! Hope this helps.

I guess that would depend on your style. If you are kinda preppie, I would suggest brown or tan and a baby blue. If you're kinda country, maybe navy blue and white or yellow. I love both combo choices myself! :) Good luck!

you can color coordinate....
different shade of a same color...Light blue, med blue and navy blue...
or....contrast colors,......neon green and orange, yellow and purple.etc...
If you have a theme in mind for the decorations, that can guide you into the colors needed as well.
