It depends who the person is. I was in a friendship with someone who was into theater for the attention and not the craft (so you can imagine how selfish she was). I let her go, because in the end she hurt me with her selfishness. On the other hand, if this is someone who you are in a relationship, or is a part of your family- try to understand why they are so incredibly egotistical. Self-centeredness is evidence of un-met needs. Try to find out what those needs are, and hopefully they will give back to you in return.

If it is your boyfriend, lay down some rules. If it is your children, try to keep them busy. If it is your parents, make some free time. I am living with my father and I purposely leave quite often and he does the same. We don't have to answer to anyone.
