you are looking at it the wrong way

remember the classic definition of Economics: the allocation of scarce goods.

How did the ancient and midieval people do business? Was there paper money or asset backed currency?

I am no expert on the medievil times, but i am pretty sure that there still were shops, like blacksmiths and farmers. Try to find out how they made transactions.

Also, u may want to figure out how governement was organised. Was there kings? How were disputes settled.

Thats economics baby!!!

Hmmm, a google search should provide sufficient information. Anyway, try several keywords, say, medieval economics, or rather, background of medieval economics.

I'm not sure if you can find it in Wikipedia and MSN Encarta but, at least you can try them. Or may be search yahoo for those backgrounds in images.
